They can't reopen the airport today as planned, as the police union have decided to go on strike. The SLFP police union told the BBC that security measures put in place for the reopening were insufficient. And no police force helps that does it?

What teachers and doctors from the unemployed? I take it you aren't being serious....or aren't actually suggesting that anyone can become a teacher or doctor. The short term unemployed aren't likely to be interested even if they were suitable. The long term unemployed come with problems....that's why they are long term. Working in these professions requires dedicated hard workers. I know in the teaching profession it's a 50-60 hour a week job just to keep up. Sure there will always be a small percentage from most groups that could be trained to do anything but as an effective solution I can think of many better ones.

In terms of teachers, there is always the prospect of maybe improving the profession and attracting back those who are leaving. Of course a better solution is to control the cost of rents and properties, and migration that keeps wages artificially low. The UK has a responsibility to tackle unemployment in the UK, rather than just ignore the problem and import cheap labour from the EU to keep companies happy.

The London Olympics was supposed to provide a boost to local jobs, but as my builder friends from the East End found out, they didn't go to local people. While we need foreign investment and to an extent labour, there needs to be a natural cycle of growth from within the UK.

No surprise they're the two biggest concerns of voters in the London election, and they go hand in hand with one another. Foreign owners/investors or foreign tenants, both add to the problem.

Surely you take what job you're capable of. I know some bright unemployed people who've just never really got on with work. I'm sure they could be trained to their full potential. If the rest actually did something and filled the low paid jobs, there'd be higher pay and more opportunities across the board with satisfied British teachers and doctors made out of those with a brain.
