I wonder whether this thread can get Roonster to come out of retirement !!!

Roonster didn't actually like rock music, he was a fan of any band who lived the myth of Springsteen's fantasy of the promised land.

ACDC were always crap, only worsted by Guns'n'Roses, so there's very little that will come out of this, other than boosting a few drug addled t***s pension funds.

All a matter of taste. I'm loathed to ask what you consider "good".

I've got tickets for the Olympic stadium 4th June and am absolutely gutted! Always wanted to see them, finally got tickets and he ain't going to be singing! As for Rose, I don't mind him and although It won't be the same, I still think it'll be a bloody good show!

duff can't sing for ####. listen to 14 years - sounds worse than me and i'm about as bad as it gets. maybe pry van zant's dopey brother away from touring with skynyrd.

Didn't stradlin sing 14 years? Duff sang on Attitude, New Rose, So Fine and did quite a bit on It's so easy which he wrote. Too be fair he was quite a raw singer but has got better.

The definition of tragic.

Thing I always liked about AC/DC is they never took themselves so seriously as 'artists'. A lot of their post Back in Black gets a pass because of that but their early stuff, pure boosted blues magic with a sense of humour and wry smile.

Ha Ha! Very good! Sorry, I have to confess, I don't know who example is/are/were!

I like many different genres in music, but in terms of hard rock, you can't go too far wrong with The Who and Zep (a bit obvious I know), maybe early Blue Oyster Cult. ACDC are just not in the same league.

To me, Guns n Roses are just a pale, flaccid version of some great British bands, like Free, Jeff Beck Group and Humble Pie. Sorry, but GnR are nothing in comparison. Not even as good as mediocre American bands like Aerosmith.

To be fair, anyone who can have a 40 year career dressed as a rock version of wee Jimmy Krankie deserves some sort of respect, and Slash's mum did go out with David Bowie for a while, so just one degree of separation from greatness!

I wouldn't put GnR on a par with Led Zep, Humble Pie, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple etc., either, but I still think they have talent and as I've already stated Slash is a top drawer guitarist and acknowledged by his peers.

ACDC are up there with the likes of Saxon, Iron Maiden for fast loud rock and Angus is fantastic and great fun - no doubt for me though that the loss of Bon Scott was crucial, and Brian Johnson's vocals don't impress me like Bon did. Axl Rose could easily replace Johnson, but not Bon.... Janis Joplin could have... she's probably belting out a few numbers with Bon in Hell right now!

AC/DC are not comparable to Zeppelin, They are a different animal. The Who have the advantage of being trail blazers but not all of their stuff is that good in retrospect. Blue Oyster Cult don't even register in terms of the best rock bands IMO.
In the end, all bands do good and bad and it is all about personal taste in the end. For example, Deep Purple helped create the genre of heavy rock but I'd rather listen to Sweet any day of the week although they heavily borrowed from Purple and The Who. Compare,Purples "The Rat" 1970 to Sweet's Set Me Free 1974. Purple's is the original but Sweet's rip off is much better. That's not to say that Purple haven't done some good songs albeit with daft lyrics.
Reputation sometimes counts for nothing when it comes to good tunes.
