Went to the game last night and I thought it was probably a good thing that we lost with that team out. Milner, Sturridge and Jagielka showed why they are backups instead of starting at international level. To me, this week should have cemented even further in Hodgson's mind what our first team should be.

Hart

Clyne ---- Cahill ----- Smalling ----- Rose

Dier

Henderson ---------- Alli

Vardy ------ Kane --------- Welbeck

Sturridge is class. If he's fit he has to go. Instead of Welbeck, for me. I'd go:

Hart

Clyne - Smalling - Cahill - Rose

Dier

Oxlaid-chamberlin -Ali - Sterling

Rooney

Kane

Just noticed you were from Carshalton,
Back in the 60's I played for Carshalton Athletic and played in the friendly game against Arsenal which we lost 9-1
The following week we beat Aldershot in a friendly from the 4th Division I think it was 2-1.
I think the ground was in Colston Avenue or something similar
Have a great day

Yet it still has more significance than the Asian Cup. Brazil, France and Italy? or your next best 3 sides in that - South Korea, UAE and Iraq?

We're the only UEFA team with a perfect record in competitive games since the World Cup.

You're getting stuffed. I hope you enjoy getting up early to watch it.

I thought the Netherlands game exposed some of Danny Rose's very obvious limitations - would be much more comfortable with Bertrand at left back, assuming Shaw isn't fit. Also showed Stones is no where near ready to be a starter.

It's strange, we've gone from having an abundance of exciting wingers to a side who's best players can now be found in the middle of the park;

Sterling, Oxlaide-Chamberlain and Walcott were the big prospects in the squad, but they've all had disappointing seasons. Conversely, the likes of Dier, Ali, Barkley, Kane and Vardy have had very good seasons, and we now lack any genuine wingers in good form.

It's difficult to try and introduce a new system this close to a tournament, but I think Hodgson might be tempted to try something which gets these players on the same pitch;

-----------------Hart-------------------
Clyne----Smalling---Cahill-----Bertrand
------Barkley-----Dier------Ali------------
-----------------Rooney-------------------
------------Kane--------Vardy--------------

We then have Sturridge, Welbeck, Lallana, Walcott and Ox to introduce as attacking options, and Henderson/Milner to stablise the midfield.

Not sure how Lallana gets in the squad either

Been rubbish since he moved to Liverpool and done next to bugger all for the 3 lions

He hasn't at all - been a moreorless permanent fixture since Klopp took over, and has been involved in some huge performances for them.

His involvement in the Vardy goal against Netherlands shows exactly why he's in the squad IMO - sure, he's inconsistent and lightweight, but he has the ability to unlock teams, and clearly understands the pressing system both Hodgson and Klopp are using.

I don't expect him to start, but I think he'll make the squad, and rightly so IMO.

Yep agree. Think he's a very clever player, would be more appreciated if he was Spanish or Brazilian. He's not about pace and power , but has time on the ball and good vision. Plays how I'd like puncheon to play, but can't, unfortunately.
