Its sad but as I see it it will blow over and be a nothing story in a week or so, it just doesn't suit those who run the press to keep the story out there. Those who should be held accountable won't be.

Disagree - this is of global interest and will run for some time and US regulators will be taking a look.

Dave invested in a fund registered offshore and paid CGT when selling his shares. Non news.

Pretty much that TBH

Makes me laugh the hypocrisy of all those bemoaning the right to privacy over say the iPhone cracking issue and yet scream for openness and demand to know other peoples personal situations when it suits.

But didn't Dave himself call for transparency?
He should do the decent thing and resign. But he won't.

Time to move forward together.

£30K and only £20K profit, there were bigger bogus expense claims from MPs. And repayments enforced on two party leaders at the time, neither of which were called Dave.

What's not transparent? They were declared in their tax returns.

He did...and he's been transparent...admittedly after being pushed some more.

as with anything...if you don't have anything to hide then what's the issue.

it'll be interesting to see if others now do the same

Agreed...again that's another issue...people baying for blood in the vain hope that their target has fouled up; even when there's actually nothing awry with what's gone on.

It simply increases the pack mentality as well as the ferver that accompanies it, all following like sheep without an original thought between them, and then they melt away into the shadows (without an apology or acknowledgement that actually everything was above board) when it seems that due taxes have been paid on it according to the law...so nuff said.

Now; as for those scallywags that used the firm to create 'shells' to money launder and avoid tax...that's another issue. These are the individuals that people should be pressurising.

What we all need is a global tax system that shines lights in ALL the corners removing the ability for tax havens and 'vehicles' that take advantage of loopholes to exist.

This is seemingly the thin end of the wedge...but there's plenty mileage left in it...just not where certain people riding on its coat tails would wish it to be though.

The PM shouldn't, imo, need to be pushed at all.
And no, i'm not baying for his blood but i do believe that 'financial arrangements' such as this should be public knowledge the moment anyone becomes an MP.

Were they Stu? He was just below the threshold for CGT so I would not expect him to have to declare anything.

I'm fairly sure he'd have to do self-assessment return, in which case:

If you don’t have anything to report:

If you’re not registered for Self Assessment you don’t need to do anything.

If you’re registered for Self Assessment you must still fill in the capital gains section of your tax return.
