It would be a non story if he wasn't responsible for regulating the very people who have a story about him. His position as a result has been compromised.
I have prepared one of my own time capsules. I have placed some rather large samples of dynamite, gunpowder and nitroglycerin. My time capsule is set to go off in the year 3000. It will show them what we are really like. |

Its a compromising situation maybe if they've held off on stories. Of course it could be that they held off on the story because its not very interesting.

The potential situations people have been listing would be blackmail, and like I said normally the victim's not the one punished. The Guardian’s media commentator Roy Greenslade said it was “a bit much to castigate newspapers for doing the right thing for once”. “This was a story about a man who was unmarried, who had a relationship with a woman who hadn’t told him she was a sex worker. When he did know he ended the relationship. I can’t see there was a genuine story there and clearly on the People, the Sun and the Mail on Sunday, they felt the same way.” He added that the newspapers knowing about his relationship did not compromise him in his role overseeing press regulation.

Seems a complete non-story but Maria 'joyless' Eagle wants to exploit it: More importantly, one wonders whether the 'lady' in question operated a niche service and, if so, what type of niche service provision was on offer? On the radio this morning they said she was a Dominatrix.

The sh1t the papers print on a daily basis, sometimes people most have never heard of and they decide not to print this. Of course there wasn't any mild blackmail. The papers would never dream of it. Just more evidence the papers influence directions the country goes in and we suck it up.

According to R4 Today Programme - It seems that this story was mothballed by the papers as a potential "sword of damocles" to potentially use against Wittingdale if his press reforms became too onerous, but "Hacked Off" got wind of it and gave what they knew to the BBC who wanted revenge for the government freezing the licence fee which was Wittingdale's department and decided to make a big splash.. This link sort of agrees with that conclusion except their reasons for not running the story earlier! Edited by Hoof Hearted (14 Apr 2016 10.54am)
