How you can compare gates of season 69/70 to now is a complete joke. It's a different generation! Games are sold out almost every week and the club can easily sell up to 31k when the Main Stand is fully built. Then the club will increase the Whitehorse will take it from there. Even if the 40k stadium is full for half the games and 3/4 full for the rest, who cares? You only have to look at the financial figures of each PL club to know we can't compete unless we have a 40k plus stadium. And if you don't back us to stay in the Premier League over the coming years, win something and even dream of doing a Leicester, then not sure we want that support.

40,000 crowds for 9 or ten home games and 30,000 for the rest? It just won't happen. We don't even have a season ticket waiting list. 22,000 Palace fans attend Selhurst Park. Pretty much the same 22,000 every time. Where you expect the 10-15,000 extra regulars to appear from I don't know.

You want us to be something we are not. The big London teams have pretty much always had 35-40,000 plus fans who are prepared to attend at the drop of a bit of success. Even when we were top with 'The Team of the Eighties' we only got 28,000 crowds against Ipswich and Villa. And that was when Selhurst could hold 51,000. We do not have as many supporters now as then who go.

As the capacity increases the club will need to think of ways to entice new season ticket holders and fans to the ground...just as West Ham have done.

Clearly reducing prices would be the quickest way to do so and with an ever increasing focus on the costs for fans would be most welcome as well. The clubs would make up the difference in food, merchandise etc once they're in the ground...35k - 40k buying beer/burgers/pies and programes is far better than 20k

I love the lack of ambition and confidence in our club by some fans. Luckily Parish and co think different or we'd be fuct.

If we build a brand new stand properly then one would hope that people would have a better experience match day and so be more likely to attend again?

Who can honestly say that they enjoy using the toilets in the Arthur?

How many people can remember when Jordan was in charge of there being no beer on sale on a Boxing Day because the staff hadn't turned up?

Now having a new stand may make no difference to staff arriving for work, however if the whole experience is greatly improved by a lovely new modern building, decent toilets, decent food outlets - not like the one in the Stephenson Lounge - then don't you think that more people will want to attend the games than before? The burgers in the Arthur currently........

Before 2010 took over, the corporate boxes were fed hot dogs - with stale bread more or less. It was an awful experience.

I wonder how many 1st timers come to Palace and then never come back again because the experience was something from the 1970s. Back then it didn't matter because pretty much every ground was the same, but that is not the case now - decent facilities will attract more people, those going will be more likely to say to people come along and as a result more people will come again - and bring their mates etc.

Slowly but surely we improve Selhurst, make the growth organic and then keep going with the other stands as the demand allows.

Highest average gate ever 29,900 season 69/70. Unsold tickets last season around 25,000. We don't need 40,000 seats. The stadium would never sell out.

Totally disagree.

With a sustained spell in the PL we will need 35k plus.

We will be looking at attracting future fans who would have otherwise supported ManU or Chelsea.

I remember the 70's and we had many crowds which were up in the 30k to 40K against the bigger clubs.

Football has never been bigger than it is now so that potential still exists for a successful club.

Very true.

When the Arthur was originally built, the "facilities" at the back were just for the seating area. From what I remember, the toilets and food/drink for the terracing was at the sides of the stand. Now it has been converted to an all seater, the original terrace facilities were removed and those facilities at the back now have to cater for far more numbers than it was originally designed for.

If the Arthur was rebuilt, the better facilities, no pillars in the way and a steeper rake with better sight lines would greatly improve the casual fan's experience, and hopefully encourage them to return.

As Steve Parish once said, Chelsea had an average gate of around 14,000 in 1993. That's about 30,000 that came out of the woodwork. We can attract at least 15,000, that's all we'd need

19,000 but a good point. However, Chelsea had a fairly recent history just before then from 1960 to late 1970's of regularly attracting 40,000s, 50,000s and even some 60,000's. That coupled with league and cup success in the 90's and the buying of world class players, being on the tube and proper redevelopment, then it wasn't going to be a giant leap for them to get back to those attendance days.

I wish Palace had that potential. They haven't. We could be a successful club a la Wolfsburg and Villareal if we don't overreach ourselves by unrealistic ambition by those who don't take the history of the club into account and let envy of others cloud their judgement.
