Has hardly ever been granted. Dont hold your breath.
Its very very difficult to build on Green belt land if not impossible.

Steve Parish has assured Crystal Palace fans work is progressing with the redevelopment of Selhurst Park and he “won’t rest” until the new stand is built.

Crystal Palace have been given planning permission by Croydon Council to build a new Main Stand, which will increase the capacity of Selhurst Park from to 26,000 to more than 34,000.

The Eagles would like to begin work on the redevelopment, which will cost between £75m to £100m, at the end of this season with a view to it being ready for the 2021/22 campaign.

However negotiations are still ongoing with Croydon Council over Palace’s Section 106 obligations, as per the Town & Country Planning Act 1990, to fund transport and community improvement initiatives.

Until that is agreed work cannot begin, but Standard Sport understands talks are progressing well and just a few issues need finalising.

The Eagles are also making progress with work on their new academy and Parish, Crystal Palace’s chairman and co-owner, has assured fans he is determined to deliver both projects.

“Things are moving forward,” said Parish as he addressed Eagles supporters at Tuesday's Crystal Palace awards.

“Certainly from me, I won’t rest until we see that new stand built and we see the investment in the academy.

“What all these guys want to see, what the players want to see, is progress of the club. We have had some difficult moments with that and there are still some hurdles to get over.

“But that and the academy, we are 100 per cent committed to. Don’t think for a minute that I don’t think like a supporter when I see what Tottenham are doing and other clubs.

“We need to get there. It is a big challenge for me and a big challenge for everyone at the club, but we need to make sure it happens.”

I must admit, I'm not convinced that this stand is the way to go, short term or long term.

Timescale is the issue. A new stadium would take a long time and we don't have that time.
I see a rebuild of Selhurst and if that leads to continued PL status and a stable mid table position then I see a new owner coming in and taking the club further.
Palace has to become attractive to players and prospective buyers alike to get us out of South Norwood.

I don't pretend to know that much about it but isn't this stand going to put us in significant debt? Significant debt for a capacity less than Leeds Utd? If so that's not a necessarily attractive optic for an incoming investor.

I think you put forward the best case scenario for the stand.....if it goes ahead I certainly hope you are right...I'm just skeptical and there to be convinced.

Yes, there being debt and needing to sell long term season tickets to help towards funding it make us think what has happened with the US owners buy in. We can’t have frittered it away. Rules don’t allow us to on what we would’ve spent it on anyway. Overpriced players and wages because we’ve had no idea who else to buy when in annual sh1t in January.

I see this stand as being as far as Parish is willing to go to make it a more attractive club to buy.

Going by my visit to the new Spurs stadium, if almost doubling your capacity requires bugger all by way of improvements to local transport then we should be fine on this.
