Very promising news I must say. At last the wheels are slowly beginning to turn again. Well done for finding and sharing this article eagleman 13.

I know it's only a computer image, but I love the look of the new stand with it's nod to the original Palace on the hill. Just hope it tempts PV to stick around till it's finished!

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

The Club are on the case. The Plans have been agreed with concerned parties, the finances seem to be in place and procedures are being followed.
"the club has just begun the process of buying six council houses in Wooderson Close that they will need to be removed to make space for the new development. Legally, the club must give the residents 12 months’ notice, which has only just been officially served, meaning the earliest possible start is late 2022."

If I was spending/investing a massive amount of borrowed money, I'd be exceptionally careful about how it was spent too

There is a likely timeline now in place, which gives them time to sort out any other remaining issues between now and end of 2022.

Relax

Interesting timing given that next seasons PL breaks on the 13th Nov for the world cup... not beyond possibility that they could get some groundwork done during that month given all the chat is that they can build around existing stand so less disruptive to attendances 👍

No, always 34000 with the new stand, although I believe there may be plans for 40,000 through a separate future development

The stand was never going to be completed until 2023.
It's hard to be patient, I know, but I will be amused to see the response of all those who claimed it would never happen when the ribbon is cut.

I'll bet you now it won't be completed in 2023

I'm not sure about that.

Firstly, as Hrolf says, the plan is actually going to plan. Other clubs moved much quicker than us. But then they enjoy huge finances and - mercifully - are not run by a bloke who wants to run the club sustainably. We are doing things with prudence and good sense and good thing too.

Secondly - and I am guessing here but suspect it is there in the blueprints - the current plans should envisage developing directly onto the newbuild structure to increase capacity to 40,000. If so, there would be no ground work, removal of houses and so on. And money should not be a problem.

But planning permission would still be required and a new 106 agreement to cover the cost of impact. That would be the principal obstacle. Croydon Council, unlike Liverpool, Haringey etc., have proved themselves to be no friends to their football club.

I am not certain why we can't build to 40,000 now. I reckon we would fill it today. Again, guesses. Croydon won't allow it but will review after they have assessed impact after a certain time. We are cautious as we don't want a 2/3 filled stadium and we want to see if we build it will they come. And we remain precarious despite our current good form. We need to be fully established best of the rest and very unlikely to go down. I reckon that will take a few more years of further organic growth. Until then, there is a risk of relegation and us occupying a white elephant. There are precedents for such folly out there.

It might not be finished in 2023, but I'm fairly confident that construction will begin in the next 18 months.

Don't underestimate the "six council houses."
Are all six still owned by Croydon Council with tenants paying rent or more likely claiming housing benefit?
Have any of the six been sold under right-to-by?
Do not assume the legal residents are just going to receive a letter to vacate and move on without a fuss.
Wouldn't you fight for your home?
I anticipate legal challenges opposing the demolition of this social housing asset.

Excuse my lack of knowledge on these matters, but, surely the residents of those houses would have been informed as to what was going to happen to them. Obviously they like others wouldn't have known the exact timeline, but, would have a fair idea. I can't believe CC wouldn't/haven't informed their tennent's?
