Good player with great distribution as much as I love Jedi and leds, song would be an improvement if he's up for it, seems the type that if he wants to he can have a game his way. Like last year had a point to prove wasn't getting played at barca and turned up at spam and was immense. This also gives the option to play him cabaye and MacArthur in a 4-3-3 of push cabaye up to att mid. If we can get him for lower than 7-8 mill I'd say do it.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Why do we need to sign Alex Song?' by james03 I was thinking about the rumours about Alex Song. Even though he would be for Palace, Do we really need him. We have Cabaye, McArthur (Back from Injury), Jedinak and Ledley and I was wondering is he really that good (Alex Song). What are your views?

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Why do we need to sign Alex Song?' by james03 I say yes as I have on the song rumour post. Good ball winner and passer don't play for barca and arsenal if you can't pass. Plus it's better options, could play 3 man midfield with him cabaye and Mac. Or play song n Mac in cdm and put cabaye further up.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Why do we need to sign Alex Song?' by james03 Unless it's Cabaye playing there, we do need a holding midfielder thats good in possession. we certainly need another similar player to McArthur, Cabaye or Puncheon to compete with that trio; Ledley's time is up I feel, he doesn't offer half of what McArthur does nor is he as good as Jedi defensively.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Why do we need to sign Alex Song?' by james03 Yes (IF ledley or Jedi goes). Don't see the point in spending in this position when 4 other positions need SIGNIFICANT improvement.
Dont let Cabaye go |

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Why do we need to sign Alex Song?' by james03 In terms of a holding midfielder, I quite like Besic of Everton who can also play in central defence.Ferocious tackler who provides energy and bite.Right-footed but is prepared to shoot with his left-foot from the edge of the area.Martinez signed him from Ferencvaros for I think £4 Mill.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Why do we need to sign Alex Song?' by james03 Song is the next step up in midfielders to what we have. He's not quite technical enough for Barca but as a holding midfielder he is streets ahead of what we have. Pardew has been muted as not having a plan B but how many of our Central midfielders are actually comfortable with the ball at their feet? We have always been a counter attacking side and previous managers have bought tough tackling midfielders that lack the comfort playing the ball through the middle. To step up a level we need to invest in a few players who are more comfortable and can dictate the play or free up space for our more technically gifted players to exploit.
"They got his own song 'He's just too good for you', it's quite unbelievable but when you see it and he's facing up someone - I actually feel sorry for them, 'Cos he actually is" - Ian Holloway |

Yes (IF ledley or Jedi goes). Don't see the point in spending in this position when 4 other positions need SIGNIFICANT improvement. But do Joe or Mile really fit into the midfield Pardew wants to play? Pards has really struggled with getting the midfield right with Jedinak or Ledley, surely one has to leave. I think he'll go for either a box to box type to compete with McArthur or a better in possession defensive mid like Song and push Cabaye forward. I think on it's day, our midfield is one of the best in the league. But one injury to it and it's weakened a lot. I'd still put Moussa Sissoko top of my wishlist, since he can play centrally or out wide if he really has to. But if Song is avaliable, we can't turn our noses at that kind of quality. This post has been merged from a topic called 'Why do we need to sign Alex Song?' by james03 We don't want a 'twinkle toes' type of midfielder, we want a younger, fast, more skilful, version of Jedinak - if such a creature exists. Definitely what I'd be looking for and paying the money for this summer if I was in charge.
