I second that. Interesting that Obama says that it would be hard for the UK to get a trade agreement with America when they have agreed trade deals with many countries smaller than the UK. Demob happy prat.

The USA sold nearly £40 Billion pounds of goods in the UK in 2015 making us their largest trading partner in Europe, as big as France,Spain and Italy combined.Would the USA really jeopardise it's trading relationship with the world's 5th largest economy by ordering us to go to the back of the queue ?

With just cause. Grenada is a Commonwealth country, for Christ's sake.

This!! Where was this great relationship when wanted support over the Falklands? He is attempting to get his Trade deal agreed by the EU. If this happens, woe betide us...Multi National companies sueing individual Governments, personal data hacked. Why do you think there has been mass protests in Germany over it? If you don't believe me, read up on it.
The good news is I think he has done Brexit a favour

One imagines it would involve your eyes swivelling and considerable frothing at the mouth, like a punch drunk but aged terrier.

I would be much more alarmed if Trump, or yourself for that matter, said Brexit would be a bad thing.

My judgement-o-meter would be all over the place.

Do you mean via the EU Willo? The US sold via the EU £40billion to the UK. I don't think we actually have a trade deal with the US.

This was the main Obama point. That a deal between us and them would take many years to implement if we leave the Union. No good to those employees and business's here now that will be affected negatively by a Leave vote, is it?

While I generally support Obama, this was one he needed to dodge. We in the US hate it when a foreign leader tries to interfere with American politics, which is why Netanyahu had such a rough time over here when he tried to block ratification or the Iran Nuclear deal. The most vociferous voices came from the American Jewish community, who told him quite bluntly he was doing himself and his country no favors. I don't doubt the President's sincerity but this is an issue that must be decided the the British people without well meaning but unwelcome interference from others.

The UK has never been able to secure a free trade deal with the USA because of the fact that we are in the EU. ! Any negotiations are in the hands of the "European Commission" and only about 3.5% of the officials actually come from the UK.

At the end of the day the USA would never give away it's own sovereignty such as removing border controls with Mexico or allowing an international court to strike down it's laws.So the USA is telling the UK to do something they would never dream of doing themselves.
