Sorry Hoof but we will have to agree to disagree about any role played. The verdicts are clear, no football supporter at Hillsborough played any role in causing the crush and the resulting deaths and injuries. The command level of the police failed to plan for and react appropriately to the situation. The club failed to provide a safe ground and had knowledge that it was unsafe but failed to correct the problems. The hardest finding for me to take was the finding against the ambulance service. I believe they were reliant on receiving proper notification from the police command and I don't believe they did. Question 7 asked the jury to consider if the actions of the supporters was either a direct or indirect cauae for 96 deaths, Their unanimous answer is No.

Juries can come to wrong conclusions as evidenced by Ched Evans trial recently. Life is just full of different opinions.

I think previous behaviour by PART OF LFC fans and indeed several other clubs' fan behaviour, especially the top 5 of the time, led to an inexperienced man in charge to make bad decisions on the day of the event after already making bad decisions before the day. But unless LFC fans actually did something tangible to make those in charge feel they had to open the gate and then leave the way clear for the central pen(s) in question, then on this occasion I don't think you can blame LFC fans. There's been a retired SYPman on the news describing the sorts of things we know went on. "Thinking they can do whatever they like" was the main and easiest comment to remember. How he and others weren't allowed to give statements this time. But LFC fans didn't force the gate, they didn't demand anything on the cctv footage. Whether they would've done later or nearer ko or after ko we'll never know, but the SYP weren't prepared for many challenges so again perhaps why Ducken panicked. Delaying the ko was a common tactic he could've used without the planning but didn't. He went for looking like he could cope with a day like that to show his superiors. I know there was a count on cctv of how many passed through the gate on top of the turnstyle counter totals. I don't know if there were more on their way in as those inside were being crushed, injured and killed. Is therer any on record? My point is that you cannot blame LFC fans for being responsible for something they might do before they've done it/might have done after it might have happened (turning up en masse without tickets) when a) he knew it happened previously with them and other big clubs' supporters at big games. b) he didn't plan for it or any difficulties on the day it seems, apart from getting the batons out. c) he panicked because of a+b and made decisions he had no idea of the consequences, minor or major. For the record, again, I do not blame LFC fans for trying to get in ticketless, if they did, on that fateful day. They were not to know what would happen. But some still do it and that I have a problem with. Fans from the very same club. Very disrespectful, selfish, dangerous, and now ignored or too risky to a person's reputation to raise it. I think it is fair to say that with what we know now about the then police criminal incompetence, and with the history of semi-final crushes at Hillsborough, if we had got to our own semi-final one year earlier that it could well have been 96 Palace fans that we would have been fighting for over the last 27 years.

Files on 23 people and organisations involved in the 1989 Hillsborough disaster have been passed to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS). An inquests jury concluded in April the 96 victims of the FA Cup semi-final tragedy were unlawfully killed. The jury found the match commander, Ch Supt David Duckenfield, responsible for manslaughter by gross negligence. Prosecutors will now decide whether to bring criminal charges against the unnamed 23. Margaret Aspinall, whose son James died in the disaster, described it as a "momentous" day. She said for years "we had no-one" and now "[we are being told] there is potentially 23."

Stupid plod. If only they had admitted their mistakes and apologised back in 1989 rather than choose the other option of breaking the law/lying... Serves them right if they get sent down.
