Hope I am not the ONLY Palace fan who wants Brighton to go up?

The Mullery era is ancient history and if some Brighton supporters hate our guts then, so what. We are Palace and proud and don't need to sink to the Celtic-Rangers pathological level of hatred.

Move on and enjoy our now traditional rivalry and look forward to two hotly contested derbies in the PL next year.

Absolutely no point in sniping at them if we can't prove our superiority ON the field where it counts.

And, by the bye, Chris Hughton is a decent, honourable bloke and I hope he takes them up.

For me personally, I don't want them to come up.
It is the satisfaction of knowing that Palace still have massive bragging rights over brighton who should always be looking up at us. Knowing that they won't have the massive cash injection from the TV deal.
They are so jealous of us and hate to live in our shadow.
If they do come up, we will be on a level par.
For the sake of 2 games a season, i would rather they stay where they are. i wish them no success at all.

There's a bloke down my road who walks round in a Tesco's carrier bag. Turns out he is a brighton faggot.

Good and appropriate responses from the BHA fans - pleased to see that. They say that the moron responsible was nicked and the young lad who was attacked was assisted by two BHA fans. Fair play to them.

Follow the same thread now and there are a couple who seem to be saying that it's to be expected.

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

Well look. they've got three games to get to the PL and they welcome absolutely anyone to cheer them on (most of their support have dual passports). So why not applaud them up the steps at Wembley and revel in the warm glow of their success?

But will your loyalties feel a little divided if they thrash the arse off of us twice next season (having spent their windfall on quality players, because their infrastructure is firmly in place)...tough one isn't it?

Right, so this all comes down to your being terrified that if they are promoted they might beat us next season. Well they do say hatred is based on fear.

If they do go up and they do 'thrash the arse off us' then I'll be disappointed and pissed off But I would just have to suck it up and say (if the victories were deserved) that the better team won. I would then let it go and hope for better the following year. A kind of healthy take on things I think. Why don't you give it a whirl?

If that's all it is why do so many of you get your knickers in such a twist about them?

And of course, only a true Palace fan would understand the hatred and the loathing that you two espouse.

Who said anything about espousing hatred and loathing? You have your own way of supporting your club (and well done you, by the way) but you need to learn to accept that others have a different slant on it and to not get all huffy and puffy about it when one view happens to not coincide with yours.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

My thoughts as well. Eventually we will end up back in the championship. I don't want them being the superior team. Happy for them to just fail every season. We all laughed on Saturday, let's hope we laugh again if they fail to make Wembley or lose the final.

You'll be branded a traitor at worst and at best someone who has plastic, wanabee and (dare I say it) gay friends.

They know me well enough to know that's not the case,
I live and work in Sussex so perhaps I should have said work mates.

Take my hat off to you, JohnG for sticking to your guns
and providing a plausible reason why there is this hatred. I've compared this to the Celtic-Rangers rivalry but at least you can put that down to religion!

As a Palace supporter since the late 1940's I think I've seen it all, well most of it. I fully understand the history behind this rivalry but still can't understand why people can't seem to accept that any team (even Brighton) who come up from the Championship deserve to.
That is why I am rooting for them in the play-offs because I want to see 'hostilities' resumed on the pitch.
If I get shouted down then so be it and I am not concerned but those who feel the same are entitled to their views. They should be respected for having a different view.

Didn't mention or refer to 'Til Death do us part.

Do understand the rivalry just not the hatred/despising bit.

..so the same will happen to them, if going by your logic.
