I don't need to. I'm not trying to justify someone else's opinion of her. I'm just pointing out that these people often have a view very distant from ordinary people.

Which is pretty much what I am saying, but Midlands Eagle, obviously being oh so precious seems to have taken offence and believes that every post on here has to prove she's a deluded cretin and very post that doesn't do that strangely makes him feel vindicated, because he's a sad old man.

She's totally deluded, we haven't got time or the means to help the amount of immigrants she's on about. If she's so concerned she can stump up some of her fortune and take some of them in, the rest of us haven't got the time or money for this nonsense.

What a load of tosh. The government is spunking money left right and centre, they can help some people have a decent life. I don't understand why you think that because you were born in this country you have more rights than somebody else ? Are you seriously concerned that migrants will affect your day to day life, or your income ? Are your issues with Angelina Jolie or your sense of entitlement ?

And I could equally say what a load of tosh to what you say. They already are affecting this country and if you think that letting people in at this current rate indefinitely is fine then I think you are deluded.
I actually don't have a sense of entitlement, everything I own I've worked bloody hard for, I started my own business and battled through tough times to get where I am today. When I left the army in 2005 I had bad depression and probably had PTSD, but I just got on with it, never in that entire difficult patch did I believe the world owed me a living. I object to people just coming in and taking advantage of a system that they've never paid into, while at the same time I don't blame them for wanting to make a better life for themselves, however, if you want to help them then put some money in, rent out a room to an immigrant and his family, or better still let him stay at yours for free until he manages to get on his own two feet. Don't preach to the rest of us on what we or the government should be doing and do something yourself.

To quote the OP from the Pfizer thread yesterday:

" but I wouldn't result in calling someone a moron because I disagree with them".

I believe you fed up eagle, but you think "deluded cretin" is ok though?

Angelina Jollie is in the public eye, she sets herself up for this sort of criticism. I find her patronising views offensive. She is not living in the real world that you or I live in LG, yet she feels more than qualified to tell us hard pressed working class people what we should be doing to help other people when most of us are working hard to provide for ourselves and family. People like us simply do not have the time or money to be able to do what she is demanding. Like I said, she has plenty of money, she should stump up the cash to help an immigrant family.
Her comments are patronising and offensive so she deserves the title of this thread. I doubt she'll read it LG and even if she did she'd think it was just insignificant people giving her significant publicity which frankly she doesn't deserve.

She's an American citizen, she's right to criticise her governments response to a refugee crisis, which is partially if not wholly a product of its own foreign policy.

The issue is much larger than migration, its potentially a huge threat to the stability of Syria's neighbours and the long term future of the area.

Refugee camps are a notorious breeding ground for terrorist recruitment, as groups like Hezbollah, IS, Al-Qaeda etc will establish themselves as the principle means of support within those camps and their massed nature, will effectively deliver potential armies of recruits. They also tend to serve as a safe haven then for the operation of activities by those groups.

Hezbollah has a massively benefitted already from Syrian refugees turning up in Lebannon (which has increased the population of the country by 25%).

Here in lies the problem the western nations will face. As time goes on, IS and Al-Qaeda affiliates will establish themselves in these camps and the inability of local authorities to police them due to the sheer numbers, will result in them becoming operation centres and safe haven for IS and Al-Qaeda to plan and operate from.

Because whilst you can make a drone or airstrike on an IS stronghold in occupied territory, its politically impossible to do the same on a refugee camp.

Brits similarly criticise the low numbers we've taken but ignore the even fewer taken by the rest of the world outside of Europe but more specifically other Arab states.

Very true. Surely Syrians would be more at home in another Arab nation than here. They should do their bit, it does affect them in the long run after all.

Given that a lot of those fleeing would be in danger in those Arab states, it makes perfect sense. Currently Jordan, Turkey and Lebannon. As it stands, its really the groups regarded by Sunni's as apostates and non-Muslims that make up the bulk of the refugees.

Other North African Arabic countries which are viable, are experiencing a refugee crisis from Libya (and are taking in some Syrian refugees. Unfortunately these are 'tiny economic entities' (Morocco and Algeria) whilst others like Egypt remain unstable and dangerous.

There aren't really many 'friendly' Arabic nations or middle eastern nations that are in an economic position to be able to take them.

Sending Shia to Saudi, Kuwait and the UAE, probably not going to work.

Only if you assume that all Arabs are somehow friendly with one another. Its also problematic that Syria has been a very secular nation. Its only about 60-70% Muslim, and many of those are what Sunni's regard as Apostates.

Most of the Loyalist and Rebel factions are largely secularist.
