I missed this yesterday for obvious reasons.

I expect that they will be getting a big bill for the broken goal and pitch repairs.

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

I've been a Hibs fan all my life and adopted Palace 4 years ago when I moved to the area. Some of the behaviour by Hibs was unacceptable granted (although first link is filmed from the Rangers end) and the club should be punished accordingly however some context is also needed.

Hibs have had a terrible time in recent years - we were relegated a couple of seasons ago and have lost playoffs in the last 2 years, the most recent last weekend. We've been to 2 other Scottish cup finals in the last 4 years, losing the first heavily to our rivals (Hearts) and the second, also quite badly, to Celtic. We also lost the league cup final earlier this year. But the Scottish Cup is the big one and we are constantly being reminded by all sets of supporters that we haven't won it in 114 years. The phrase 'it could only happen to us' was made for Hibs to the extent that the word 'hibsed' is used in Scotland when something calamitous happens.

With all that background and to win the game in the manner we did (2-1 down then scored in 80, 92min) there was always going to be a surge of emotion. I was close to tears myself and would have probably choked up if I was able to speak. The vast vast majority of Hibs fans ran on the pitch to celebrate. We were let down by a few chavs on both sides, but most of it, from Hibs anyway, was very good natured.

It's difficult to summaries all of this in a SSN caption (and there is a strong Glasgow bias in the Scottish media) so it's all been blown a bit out of proportion. Lets punish those responsible but also focus on Saturday being a well deserved win and the greatest days in Hibs history.

There is no context for scenes like that. It was like Birmingham at our place, except they'd been hammered, relegated and it was the 1980s!

At a time when all the other parties other than the SNP have agreed to group together to rid Scotland of the Football act, the timing couldn't be much worse I'd say.

Sturgeon glossing over it and tweeting the her husband would be happy wasn't clever either.

I can understand running on the pitch, can sort of understand goading Rangers fans (although you have to accept the consequences) but I can't understand vandalism or assaulting the players.

Who thinks that this is the best result for 114 years, lets get on the pitch so we can throw a few punches at opposition players, dig up the pitch and hang off the crossbar until it breaks?

It comes to something when Rangers can take the moral high ground against another team!

I can understand invading your own pitch to celebrate something but not at a neutral or away ground. You're pissing off 50% or more of those attending.

They could get thrown out of the cup next year for this, or worse they could annul the result and kick them out of the Europa league.

Their own players also missed out on being able to celebrate the occasion properly too.

I'm certainly not defending assaulting the players, I hope anyone who did that is caught, prosecuted and banned for life. I'm not really defending goading the rangers fans either (although they are a horrible bunch). The pitch invasion was a spur of the moment thing that wasn't viewed as an act of aggression by the majority of Hibs fans that participated.

I didn't know about the Scotland Football act or Sturgeon's tweet - from experience she's best ignored anyway.

And yes, Rangers taking the moral high ground grates although I'm not convinced they're entitled to in this case. You could equally ask, who runs on the pitch when another teams fans are invading it after winning the cup? Or, who belts out sectarian songs in this day and age (or the one before it).

My main reason for posting is because this incident, while embarrassing and rightly condemed by the media, is being blown a bit out of proportion and its a shame that this will now be the first thing people associate with Hibs as we're not that type of club.

I should also state that I wasn't one of the people on the pitch - I was running to Wembley while this was all happening.

It's not at all out of proportion, but it certainly is a shame for the club.

When I heard reports of trouble I thought it'll probably be nothing really but it far exceeded what I was expecting to see. The damage to the pitch and the goalposts is the most neanderthal of actions. Entirely pointless.

That's why Rangers can take the moral high ground.

Fantastic idea and I think we should run with this.
Kick Hibs out of the Europa cos of the way their fans behaved and put us in, in their place down to how excellently we took the day. sorted.

Fair enough, I can see that this all makes Hibs look bad and I accept I'm a bit biased. When I said exaggerated I meant comparisons with the 1980s are over the top and I haven't heard reports of anyone actually being hurt. It's not only a shame for the club but also for Scottish football as the final was a really good game for once. It's actually a good ad for Scottish football if you stop watching at full time...

But, Rangers will NEVER be able to take the moral high ground over us although in this case it certainly hasn't stopped them trying. Just because a small section of our support acted slightly worse than theirs did in a single game does not give them that right. Their track record is appalling and consistently worse than anyone else's. Most other clubs could take the moral high ground (although the situation would likely not have escalated with anyone else) but not them. It's utter hypocrisy and as rediculous as Chelsea fans moaning about Man City buying the league.

Rant Over

No players were assaulted, one got pushed, a Rangers official did kick out at a Hibs player, shown on TV, Rangers are sore losers, always have been, always will be.
If this really was a riot as misreported by the press, they why was the Hibs fans allowed back to their seats to see the presentation of the cup and sing Sunshine on Leith, a far cry from the constant sectarian chants emanating from the other end for the whole match.

I support Scotland, Hibs and the Palace, no glory hunters here!!!!!!

PLEASE SIR, CAN I HAVE A PIE!!
