This song was written by The Empire Supporters Club, the oldest in MLS and the name the MetroStars (now Red Bull NY) should have used. Their first name was Empire SC. One note, Don Garber is the commissioner of MLS.

The Ballad of MLS aka The Twelve Days

On the first day of Christmas Don Garber gave to me,
Another expansion team.

On the second day of Christmas Don Garber gave to me,
two expansion teams and another expansion team.
On the third day of Christmas Don Garber gave to me,
Three expansion teams, two expansion teams and another expansion team.

On the third day of Christmas Don Garber gave to me,
Three expansion teams, two expansion teams, and another expansion team.

On the fourth day of Christmas Don Garber gave to me,
Four expansion teams, three expansion teams tow expansion teams and another expansion team.

On the fifth day of Christmas Don Garber gave to me,
FIVE EXPANSION TEAMS!
Four expansion teams, three expansion teams, two expansion teams and another expansion team.

On the sixth day of Christmas Don Garber gave to me,
Six expansion teams, FIVE EXPANSION TEAMS!
Four expansion teams, three expansion teams, two expansion teams and another expansion team.

On the seventh day of Christmas Don Garber gave to me,
Seven expansion teams, six expansion teams, FIVE EXPANSION TEAMS! (Oh, boy)
Four expansion teams, three expansion teams, two expansion teams and another expansion team.

On the eighth day of Christmas Don Garber gave to me,
Eight expansion teams, seven expansion teams, six expansion teams, FIVE EXPANSION TEAMS! (oh, my)
Four expansion teams, three expansion teams, two expansion teams and another expansion team.

On the ninth day of Christmas Don Garber gave to me,
Nine expansion teams, eight expansion teams, seven expansion teams, six expansion teams, FIVE EXPANSION TEAMS! (Oh, dear)
Four expansion teams, three expansion teams, two expansion teams and another expansion team.

On the tenth day of Christmas Don Garber gave to me,
Ten expansion teams, nine expansion teams, eight expansion teams, seven expansion teams, six expansion teams, FIVE EXPANSION TEAMS! (Good grief)
Four expansion teams, three expansion teams, two expansion teams and another expansion team.

On the eleventh day of Christmas Don Garber gave to me,
Eleven expansion teams, ten expansion teams, nine expansion teams, eight expansion teams, seven expansion teams , six expansion teams, FIVE EXPANSION TEAMS! (Rats)
Four expansion teams, three expansion teams, two expansion teams and another expansion team.

On the twelfth day of Christmas Don Garber gave to me, (wait for it)
Twelve expansion teams, eleven expansion teams, ten expansion teams, nine expansion teams, eight expansion teams, seven expansion teams, six expansion teams, FIVE EXPANSION TEAMS! (Knock yourself out)
Four expansion teams, three expansion teams, two expansion teams, AND A-NO-THER EX-PAN-SION TEAN!

Aren't you glad Christmas only has 12 days!?

That chant is nearly as tedious as the Borussia Mönchengladbach fan that says "Give me a B".

The standard of football isn't bad Its just that a win or a loss amounts to nothing at the end of the day (or season, as they have no promotion or relegation. This is in part IMO to a lot of the club franchises being owned by NFL owners who don't want Football/Soccer to become too popular as they know that it would quickly overtake the popularity of American Football. I work in a business where I'm kind of connected to a lot of people in the football world and the MLS heavily subsidise the games. I have yet to pay a penny (not that I would) to go & watch a game. Also they would prefer all the clubs to be in big urban areas which gives smaller clubs absolutely no chance of joining the MLS.

This is all due to the market approach that exists in the US. For example, let's say NYCFC were to get relegated for the Rochester Rhinos. The TV networks would scream bloody murder as Rochester is nowhere near the market New York City is. The logistics also play a part. In essence, you would have to divide MLS and the other lower leagues (NASL, USL, etc.) into regions and the lowest team in each region goes down from MLS and the top team in each region would come up. The USA is so much larger than any European country so we really can't have the bulk of our top league with too many teams in one region.
