I've learnt to tolerate people being homosexual, having some kind of religion thing going on, being paedophiles etc but blokes who sit about watching a TV show about cars seems a bit gay to me.

Cars are boring. Consumer shows about cars are boring. That's people really only get excited about dangerous cars.

i.e. ones made of fibre glass, that cost more than a house, can travel at ridiculously lethal speeds and essentially can turn the driver in to mush if they make a momentary lapse in judgement (something the kind of person who spends 1.5m on a car is likely to be prone to).

Things like getting celebrities to drive 'common' cars also appeals, especially if your encouraging them to drive them at dangerous speeds, because we want to a) see them having to be like us with our sh*t boring cars b) see them have some kind of accident.

Its no accident that Top Gear interest spiked when Hammond tried to stop a drag car with his head. When they were riding around in 'gay pickups' in Alabama, what we really wanted was to see them lynched.

Essentially, we as a society, want, to watch someone like Noel Edmonds, do something like ride a 900 cc Motorcycle into a brick wall at 120mph. That's essentially guaranteed, top ratings viewing right there. 90% of the UK will tune in to watch that and the repeats - and it'll be the most played thing on iPlayer for years.

Obviously we have to 'live' with the compromise, that is that Noel Edmonds might end up hitting a brick wall on a 900cc motorcycle, whilst racing some other c**t in a Ferrari, who hopefully will also crash and if not burn, have to explain the loss of a 1.5m car to the accounts department.

People actually hate cars, and they hate celebrities, which is why putting cars and celebrities into possibly dangerous scenarios, appeals. We're happy if they're humiliated, endangered or doing something stupid, but really we want to see them hurt or killed.

Why do people hate cars. They're expensive, financial holes. And everyone loses money on the f**king things, and never can actually buy what they want (the fibre glass death machine).

The BBC should reboot Top Gear with Chris Evans, by making him drive a F1 car, through a mine field, blindfolded, whilst the car is on fire.

With Ant & Dec tied up in the boot for good measure - might as well get rid of those two at the same time as the tw@t Evans

I disagree, someone has to try out racing a pursuit roller coaster, on a 900cc motorcycle, whilst blindfolded in episode two.

Obviously, this takes place on a roller coaster track.

I wonder how many drug dealers tuned in excitedly last night to find out about 'Top Gear' only to discover that it was about CARS???

Well, I really enjoyed it

Sadly, before it finished I had to leave it as there was some paint that had been newly brushed and I just couldn't trust it to dry on its own.

Evans and the scriptwriters tried to make him sound like Clarkson and it doesn't work.

I didn't like the new track/celeb format or the pilot pretending to be ill with Sabine, while Evans drove around poorly.

It's saying something when the best piece was LeBlanc driving the Ariel.

Yup, the pretend puke was toe curling.

I recorded it as i was watching the Darts. I put it on later that evening & got bored after about 20 minutes so turned it off.
I did decide to give it another chance on Monday & watched the whole episode. I thought it was ok, not great but at the same time watchable.
I'll probably watch Episode 2 but wouldn't miss the show if the BBC decided to scrap it after this series.

The sad thing is, its barely about cars anymore

That's why I don't watch it.

But I do like the celebrity in a reasonably priced car and I'll never forget Jodie Kidd making the clicking noise with her tongue whilst she tore up the previous best times with apparent ease.

Some of the novelty stuff is entertaining when they get 3 teenage cars from the early '80s to race or 3 £1,000 cars to race across a country but it's mostly sh1te. I don't care whether a car beats a boat or something jumps over something or a caravan gets blown up, unless a section of Millwall are holidaying in Dymchurch in it.

I might watch it a bit or on Dave but won't be looking out for it.

I think Clarkson and Co are responsible for the recent attempts by illegal immigrants to cross the channel in a flimsy craft.

They probably watched the old Top Gear episode when the 3 of them converted cars/vans into sailing craft and Clarkson actually got from Dover to Calais in a watertight converted SUV with an outboard motor. Capt Slow relied on wind power to get his converted Triumph Herald into a sailing dinghy whilst the Hamster had converted a VW van into a canal barge but both failed to progress very far due to choppy conditions.

This episode has obviously been studied on Youtube and copied.

I'm splitting hairs but it was a pickup. A Nissan to be specific.

It's now in the National motor museum.
