BREAKING NEWS:

London Mayor Sadiq Khan has banned nickgusset from posting tedious, boring links to lunatic blog sites or completely irrelevant pages on the HOL.

Now THAT is a headline I'd give praise to Khan for.

You don't want an alternative viewpoint? What is lunatic about the blog sites? What do you think of body image among women and advertising.

Haha...

Actually the reason is more mundane, its to do with fashion models wearing prototype designs. The shape and build of the model is so as to 'not distract' from the clothing, and so that the clothes can be as close to perfect a fit, without having to have them specifically tailored for one specific model. Its essential for runway (where there is minimal time for adjustments, and pre-production photo shoots. Otherwise you'd end up paying a lot of money for the model to be present during design and manufacturer.

Basically fashion models are glorified clothes hangers.

As you mentioned, you and I were bombarded with the advertising spiel, and worked out for ourselves that it was tosh. That was probably down to having an education that taught us that there are winners and losers. Something that the Liberal attitude of today forbids. "Everyone is equal" they teach. Only we're not. Some are better at some things than others. Some are thinner than others, or cleverer, prettier, stronger, more driven, etc. Teach it to the young, and they will accept difference. Like we did. A little disappointment does no harm.

The great false belief of society, which is essential for advertising and marketing to work. Everyone is affected by advertising, its generally designed to utilise psychological hooks to attract the attention of the 'target audiences'. Look around your house and home, at the things you've bought, and its hard to believe we are not affected.

The human machine works by relating itself to incoming data from the sensory world. Advertising exploits that. Its like people in the communist party believing they aren't affected by propaganda. Advertising is our propaganda.

I know this, and I am still just as vulnerable to advertising as anyone else. Part of the trick is making us believe we aren't affected, because were more educated, and then we have a whole raft of advertising and marketing that is specifically designed to exploit this very hubris.

I don't believe the model in the picture featured was anything more that healthy attractive girl. I would agree that fashion houses do have an issue with promoting ultra skinny models but that is a different issue.
If you care to notice there are clothing ranges that are aimed at larger ladies and not all images of women are skinny. In fact I'm sick of hearing big fat lumps tell us how happy they are and how we should all be happily fat. I've heard smokers saying similar things.

For me putting the interests of a tiny minority and pressure groups over the majority is typical of left wing politics and as he is a Muslim, I would have let this one well alone if I'd have been our new mayor.

do you not agree with the peer assessed research on the effect of advertising on body image? Particularly on kids.

There is no doubt that this is true but in the case of advertising products related to being slim, clearly it is not affecting a large proportion of the population.
People are getting fatter.

This might be due to a degree to less activity and almost certainly due to the rise of fast food.

If Mr khan is so bothered about peoples health, why doesn't he ban all Macdonalds from London?

We know why.

The policy in question nothing more than a tokenism and that is why I believe it is more about pandering to left wing sensibilities than for mental health.

Once more.

Where do you draw the line?

In any case people are getting fatter and fatter.

Which is the greater problem?

A few people who have eating disorders or a large proportion of the population getting morbidly obese?

How is it wrong to show images of people who are healthy and attractive? Not all of us can look like the perceived ideal but it is beneficial for the vast majority to have a bit of vanity and at least try to achieve it. Those I know personally who have no vanity and are "happy" with themselves are very over weight and have health problems.

We could all just live in a bubble and never see or hear anything that we find offensive or makes us jealous? That'd make us all grow up to be well rounded individuals I'm sure. Some people are richer, better looking and more charismatic than you, if you can't handle that then you're not really going to be able to deal with the majority of life's little kicks in the balls.
