Safe to assume you're talking out of your backside.

I never drew any conclusions. Someone pointed out the spurious assertion that Cech would guarantee Arsenal 10 more points. I showed that actually Arsenal ended up with less points. No conclusions. Nothing about whether a keeper actually could earn you more points. But don't let that get in your way.

I also said he was definitely an upgrade - although given I haven't watch a huge amount of French football I am unable to say how much. But then I am sure you're an expert and have been watching him week in week out.

didnt see you quote that cech stuff but i felt your words were centred around the limited budget assumption. what with this being a quality free agent goalkeeper signing who can provide genuine competition and you talking about us not scoring enough goals?

im sorry if i was a bit rude but decisions controlled by a fear of making mistakes are causing too many problems these days (media coverage of EU referendum, England manager selection)

i think these things:

theoretical points in 2015/16 =/= points difference between that season and another
-
arsenal finished 3rd last season. their only first team signing was petr cech. this season they finished 2nd.
-
mandandas physical prowess > wayne hennesseys
-
wayne hennesseys mistakes were after relentless pressure for weeks with our team providing no respite.
-
ligue 1 =/= the prem
-
lloris made numerous mistakes his first two seasons in spite of being considered world class before arriving
-
signing mandanda will increase our chances of signing batshuayi
-
barring freak injury, mandanda has at least 3 years of top level goalkeeping ahead of him
-
mandanda currently earns what frazier campbell earns
-
alex mccarthy currently lacks the composure for the first team
-
with speronis age, he is prone to injury
-
speroni lacks the composure and ball handling skills for the first teams of more than half the premiership
-
joe hart lacks the composure to instill confidence in england's defence
-
i prefer losing to iceland and roy resigning than we lose in the semis and him remain our manager

im not crazy

I do believe that Mandanda would appear to be an upgrade on Hennessey and that the goalkeeper is a key position. I personally think that our priorities should be elsewhere, but it seems like we're trying to address those as well based on other news.

I would like to see us sign him.

And before we decided that we were able to spend £32m on a player I had worked on the assumption that the budget was limited (well more limited than it apparently is).

And if that was the case (I hadn't expected us to spend more than £30m altogether) then I felt the immediate priority was offensive players (and probably a long term replacement for Damo at the back).

If we have significantly more funds and can achieve both attacking upgrades and defensive ones then great. I'm all for it.

If we start next season with Michy Batshuayi as our first choice striker, Stephen Mandanda as our first choice goalkeeper, and Andros Townsend as one of our first choice wingers, then would be ecstatic.

I think a lot of people underestimate how key he can be. I know when I was playing Sunday league the amount of confidence the back four took from having our 1st choice (and really very good) keeper behind us was huge. A confident defence plays better & can free up the midfield from some of it's protective duties & so on. I have no doubt it is even more relevant at PL level.

Looking at results in 2016, 8 saves could have earnt us 15 more points - that's how close the margins are.

Will this be five? It's gonna be five! It IS five!

I'm not at all comfortable with anyone being "assured first choice status", no matter how good they may be. The only way to ensure you get the best out of these people is when they know that the competition for their place is ready to bite them on the arse.

I think he will have to play for the weed if he wants any arse play 😊
