OK at the risk of being called barmy or stupid - When I look at the smaller nations doing well, its pretty much always on the back of team spirit , blood and guts for the good of the cause.
We as an England football team rarely demonstrate that kind of commitment, there are many that say that our guys are too pampered, they earn too much with the clubs, the England thing is an extra commitment that they could do without - but the managers cant avoid picking the players at the top clubs because either the FA or the Media will skin them, if any of this is true it hasent worked very well for us in the recent past. So what about doing something new:
1: Every player gets the opportunity to say if he will or wont sweat blood for the England team, if he is in or out - a complete amnesty / no retribution for anyone who dosent have the stomach for it, dosent want the responsibility, dosent feel the pride inside when it comes to the three lions or the national anthem, and we as a country don't pick them for the squad.......
Then with the list of those who do want to be part of it, will sweat blood, will do whatever is required to be what the England team needs, whenever it needs it, take a long hard look at those guys, whichever club they play for , in whatever league, and start from them, because that is what England national team needs.
Once you know who they are, then choose the manager that's going to get the best out of them.

Call me mad, but maybe we ought to look outside the world of football for our next manager? Perhaps someone who has been motivational in other circles such as Bono, Russell Brand or Lord Sugar? I say this as we have wandered haphazardly from one football manager to another in my lifetime and not won so much as a sausage.
