Stopped tw@ts killing a wild fox for fun. Seems perfectly reasonable.

Who said there was a problem with it? What thread are you reading?

If you come to a fork in the road, take it.

Totally agree Kerms.

I was out yesterday walking the dog and fund a dead young squirrel in the road that probably had been hit by a car and was being pecked by pigeons.

I gathered him up, took him to the woods and gave him a little send off with a bit of dignity bless him.

He probably woke up yesterday morning full of the joys of spring and by lunchtime he was gone.

Yet that arsehole on the horse still lives..... cruel world.

We are living in the 21st century and such acts of barbarism should have been stopped after the Dark ages.

There is no defence for treating animals in this uncivilised, brutal fashion.

Muslims will have to be vegetarians or eat humanely butchered meat (they can still bless the animal before it is stunned) if they want to live here.

There is no such thing. Its really a sliding scale of cruelty, the only really humane methods of killing would render the food inedible. Being shot in the head with a bolt gun, isn't very humane. It just seems more humane to observation.

The truth is, that there is absolutely no real need for people in the UK to eat meat other than they like it (morally and ethically speaking, of course I'm a hypocrite because I eat meat). But we should be careful when claiming to be humane, its more humane than some forms of killing.

Its like lethal injections - They look much more humane than they actually are.

However you are not the first person to try and attribute things to me that I disagree with. Is it cos I is left?

I think he's mistaken you for me on this on I was pro-hunt sabbing, and believed that the best solution to fox hunting was to legalise sabbing fox hunts - Even most people who hunt regard fox hunting as a cruel and barbaric practice.

"I thought you'd defended hunt sabs in the past" - as if hunt sabs were a negative thing.

Have i mis-interpreted it?

Wrong.... and stupid remarks like this don't help Jamie.

It is more humane to stun a lamb before cutting it's throat.

Otherwise the poor thing suffers unnecessarily as it fights for life and struggles and thrashes about in it's death throes.

Sadly our desire for meat means we have to slughter young animals, but we don't have to be barbaric and inhumane in the process.

Eating other sentient beings is just nature. But what I find e-vil-e is not treating the animal well in its time on earth before the axe falls.

Two whole chickens for a fiver? You just know the poor sods have had to endure Fowlschwitz before hitting the shelves at Tesco.

Which is what I said, but that its not actually humane to stun something and cut its throat, or to simply ram a metal bolt through it head. We just justify ourselves as humane for doing so.

The simple fact is we can't act on a moral principle and retain an immoral concept. It'd even be good for the UK to reduce its meat intake, especially red meat; health wise it would likely be more beneficial than stopping smoking by the population.

Our desire for meat doesn't mean we have to slaughter young animals, desire is not need - and if we had to do it ourselves, most of us would soon be reaching for the flavoured Tofu.

Of course I am a hypocrite. I've also hunted for meat, mostly rabbits as a teenager, which we'd eat. But its also that which swung me to vegetarianism for a decade from 16 to 28.

The point I was making related to some hunt sabs doing things like destroying property, commiting assault, etc. I was pointing out that I thought Nick had defended people who did that kind of thing, but was condemning this behavior elsewhere. If my thought was right, that was inconsistent of him.

I have no problem with meat eating, nor with shooting vermin like foxes. But I don't see why people need to ride round the country to watch a pack of dogs tear an animal to pieces. We banned bear baiting, due to its being inhumane. I don't see fox hunting as being that different. That being said, Jamie has a point as the line is arbitrary.
