Do you think that people got told the truth before, during or even after WW2?

War always involves economy with the truth.

The difference between WW2 and the Iraq war was that during WW2 our existence as an independent nation state was under threat. Hardly surprising that a government might "manage" the truth. Iraq was not the slightest threat to the UK.

Not according to some historians.

Hitler never had any intention of attacking Britain until it became a question of necessity if you believe some accounts.

I am not qualified to say if Iraq posed an indirect threat to Britain or world stability but there were certainly no WMDs. That is not the same as saying that Tony Blair didn't believe he was acting in the best interests of Britain of course and that might have involved lying.

He certainly has self-belief. A little self-doubt is never a bad thing in a leader. He looked haunted earlier this week, wonder if he's having daily confessions. If he is he needs to share it with the rest of us.
