I don't think the excuses are specifically a colour thing, just a young "poor me, life's soooo unfair" thing. Most of us do/did it when caught bang to rights by teachers, parents, authority figures, or whatever, the first reaction is "but, but, but, it's not my fault because...{insert ridiculous reason here}", it's just that being black is an easy fall back when you have nothing else.

I hope it works out with him working for you - some will take the opportunity and thrive on it (and just end up with a few tales to tell later in life), some will throw it back in your face because it's easier. Hope he's in the former camp for both your sakes.

I hear ya, every time I fukked up in my yoot, I blamed everyone but myself. The difference being, my parents made me take responsibility... his mum suggests that black kids be exempt from being prosecuted for low level crime... what chance has the kid got with a mum like that?

I'm gonna make sure he sees all sides of what I do... from the hard graft, dealing with tradesmen/mortgage advisers to tax returns.

I'm gonna try and make him see that earning a decent wage involves hard work, intelligence and sometimes a level of diplomacy (dealing with tradesmen can be difficult)... at the moment, he is impressed by the gangsta lifestyle... well he is gonna realise that what I do is as far from the gangsta lifestyle as you can get.

The worst part of the whole day.... was this was the first time my GF has met this side of the family... I asked her afterwards what she thought... I said be honest.

This is key, we need to know if the officer followed protocol.

Screaming “murderer” after watching a 5min video clip is utterly stupid.

He didn't, the police department fired him. Standard protocol is for a suspect to lay face down with his arms spread. The officers then approach them, folding one hand behind their back, then the other, applying restraints such as hand cuffs, all the while covered by the second officer.

If you're face down, with star spread arms, its almost impossible to get to a gun, let alone bring it to bear, aim and fire before an officer can fire off a shot.

Nothing in that clip should be protocol, except maybe crossing your legs, behind you.

If he'd been an active serviceman, rather than a police officer, he'd likely have been convicted based on the video.

Kudos to you. I believe in second chances and setting an example, but rarely have the opportunity to do this these days (although I used to volunteer at our local prison teaching IT skills).

On the radio (770 KTTH, I'll admit they're a little right of centre) they said the officer was trying to move him away from the room, he also said the training scenarios involve people suddenly reaching for firearms, he said until you know what you're dealing with (1,2,3 or more suspects), you think worse case scenario. They asked him if he would do anything different, he said the only thing he would have done different is he would have created a barrier, they're trained to first take cover... he doesn't think the copper did this.
He did say you give direct and explicit orders and let the suspect know in no uncertain terms failure to follow these instructions could lead to them being shot.He then said if the suspect makes a sudden movement, the copper has a split second to make a choice to shoot.
What he did say.... in all the training... they're never told how much or how little to shoot... you're told fire until he is no longer a threat.

Well done 7mins. I hope you've caught the kid at the right time and he is up for it and has outgrown his previous lifestyle/attitude.

Today he quit.
He was late twice and didn't turn up once. Smoked weed at work. I told him yesterday... no more f*** ups... his mum phoned me last night to say he doesn't want to work with me anymore. She defended him... "all kids have trouble getting out of bed" and "You can't tell him to not smoke weed on his break". I explained that I could have had viewings at the property, and it stunk of doobie... anyway...I tried, I fear he has a bleak future... the three weeks I had him working for me, opened my eyes to just how broken he is.

His mum has given him too many excuses. He has no respect for hard work. He thinks the system/white/rich people have it in for him. The way he (and his friends) view females, sends a shiver down my spine.

Oneself is often the last we point the finger to. Not everyone can be saved, nor should they be, his life will be hard and he'll find little happiness or fulfillment.

Unfortunately his attitude is being weaponized and given a reprieve by the left, as the "system or racism" failed him.

Frankly, people like this need to be conscripted, there is no other way to save them from themselves.

Sorry to hear that. At least you tried to help. Maybe some day he will wake up and smell the coffee. In the meantime you have a business to run and I would have sacked him as well.

Cheers.... the crying shame is.... there were a few (very) brief moments, when I thought he might make it.

Hopefully... after a period of being skint... if he gets another chance he'll grab it, and learn the lessons from his time with me.
