Early reports suggest that he had lots of school and mass shootings info in his room an had no known links with Islamic State. In fact they are saying that he had a link of some kind to Anders Breivik or his ideology. He had received psychiatric care and had been treated for depression.

I've been to Munich a few times and always thought that because every Police man and woman are armed would be a deterrent for this type off thing. obviously not.

You'll find that most Iranian's are shi-ite and are regarded worse than devil worshippers by IS. Also 6 of 7 deaths are German's of Kosovan or Turkish origin, so presumably also Muslim's. Always better to wait for facts to emerge than hurry to conclusions.

Problem is, if you have a gun, with the intention of shooting people, you're already past the point of being deterred by the threat of being shot by the police. There isn't really much in the way for real deterrent for murdering people, because murder as a crime tends to be for very personal reasons. Even when its the murder of strangers, it tends to be for reasons that subjectively the killer, are very personal. The rest tend to be fairly minor incidents that have gotten unlucky, or money.
