"Nothing but preemptive excuses for why Trump may become President."

half right. it could be an excuse but the story is absolutely not "nothing but".

american voters need to realize that from a foreign policy standpoint a vote for trump is to step towards russia and away from europe. if that's what the country wants, fine, but let's not ignore all evidence pointing otherwise.

The story would be nothing if Hillary hadn't already left herself exposed with her email server debacle.

The entire world sat back and watched Russia invade, and annex part of, Ukraine while doing nothing. The US, UK, EU, NATO or anyone else you care to mention and this is long before Trump entered the fray.

American voters need to realise you're just voting for your president, you're not voting for cosying up to Russia or Europe or anyone else. And all the candidates are, frankly, rubbish.

your politics are getting in the way. it doesn't matter which side you are on (pro hillary; pro trump - and they are both rubbish). it's that putin is using cold war tactics to influence american elections.

anti-hillary people may think this is some sort of a "win" for their side but it's a loss for sovereignty, a loss for democracy, and a win for putin. do you think he'll stop here? putin never stops when he's found a winning formula.

perhaps further discussion on this is best over a pint, but there is one item i certainly disagree with:

"The story would be nothing if Hillary hadn't already left herself exposed with her email server debacle."

this story has nothing to do with hrc's email server. i don't see a connection at all, other than perhaps both stories involve emails?

How are my politics getting in the way? I don't have a say in it, nor do I care much as all the candidates are/were useless. The US elections go on forever and are very dull from the outside. Even when they decide who won they drag it out for a couple of months more.

You're deluded if you think Putin is rigging the US or any other election, outside of Russia. Never mind him affecting the sovereignty or democracy of the US.

Or maybe it's because trump has openly supported strengthening relations with Russia and Putin?? While Clinton has increasingly alienated and punished Russia during her time as Secretary of State.... As history has shown, this is never a good idea.
Considering the volatile state the world is in, which policy seems more sensible right now??

Trump's financial history has lead to him being black-balled by all the big banks. Therefore, to fund his increasingly shaky real estate deals, he has reached out to private investors, and found a rich vein of money in the Russian oligarchy.

“Russians make up a pretty disproportionate cross-section of a lot of our assets”
- Donald Trump, Jr.

Trump has surrounded himself with pro-Russian campaign staff, most notably his campaign manager. He has praised Putin (as well as Kim Jong Un and Sadam Hussein) for things like their decisiveness and publicly glowed when asked about being praised by Putin. He has (as was mentioned above) advocated abandoning the U.S's position as the world's policeman, most notably with regard to NATO and Europe.

Now, whether Trump simply believes these things, or whether he is trying to curry favour, or whether he is having his strings pulled from Moscow, or whether Putin just likes the cut of his jib and is providing unrequested assistance, we cannot tell. Regardless, Trump is the most pro-Russia candidate this country has seen since before the 2nd World War.

Now, Republicans have for decades been stretching the ability of the human mind to maintain competing principles within, but I am shocked that supporting this pro-Ruskie Republican hasn't made heads explode in a spray of cognitive dissonance.

So much wrong here...

Hillary's email "debacle" was her using the same convenience workarounds as her predecessors, including Condoleeza Rice and Colin Powell. The issue only came to light from being the only thing about the endless Benghazi inquiries that was actually meaningful. In the end, only 3 emails that were confidential at the time of receiving went through her personal server; two had not been marked as confidential (an error on the sender, not Hillary) and the other had a confidential element to it that was only marked as such in the body of the email.

SCANDAL!!!!!!

Except for the whole sanctions thing that has crashed the country's economy and currency and left Russia isolated on the world stage. Other than that, yeah, nothing.

Or do you think that we should all roll tanks across Europe and party like it's 1939?

Just like voting for Brexit doesn't actually mean you want to leave the EU.

What nonsense.

Can you stop the multi quote crap that you can't reply to?

I really don't care what she was doing with her emails, but any headline that has those two words in it (Hillary and email) is going to get her opponents frothing at the mouth.

Sanctions have really helped Ukraine though haven't they? It's just been tit for tat and Russia won't back down first.

They have also caused economic damage to a number of EU countries, with the total losses estimated at €100 billion, the potential cost of sanctions for the Western countries has been estimated as over $700 billion

I think you'll find that the price of oil had a far bigger effect on their economy and it's downturn.

You're just all coming across as paranoid. You're picking between two people being the next president and nothing more.

Any chance of a link to an actual news report about this?

At the moment it just sounds like paranoia as to why you're going to probably end up with Trump. And the answer will be that he got the most votes and nothing more.

Yeah because a news report in the reputable daily newspapers equals the truth . I would trust Vice reporters over your mainstream daily news media

As oppose to the link I found you mean?

I'd never heard of vice reporters and the article didn't really explain the story either. Who you trust is up to you.

So, Hillary is supposed to avoid being hacked because of a prior email story? That makes no sense.

And you admit there were sanctions, which is not "nothing" being done. Yes, they have hurt all concerned, but far more so Russia - the target. And, again, Ukraine is better off with sanctions being prosecuted than a land war being prosecuted in its streets. Oil prices have not helped Russia, of course, but that wasn't your original point; which was that nothing had been done, which you have now retracted.

And if you think that "picking between two people" is all we're doing, then you're delusional. Bush took the US and its UK lapdog into Iraq, killed hundreds of thousands and created ISIS. Do you think Gore does the same? To answer my own question: never in a month of Sundays!

Presidents matter.
