Can anyone please help by confirming the Palace team (in numerical order) and sub for the opening home game in the first division, v Manchester Utd, on August 9, 1969? We'll be featuring the game in next week's retro-themed Action Replay column which appears in the Tuesday edition of the South London Press. Although not certain of shirt numbers, I am very confident that the following 10 played. My doubt is whether Mark Lazarus or Tony Taylor wore No.7. 1 John Jackson Many thanks for your help.

Did Lazarus play in any other games after that. I don't remember seeing him again.

I got in without paying that day - I was in a huge crowd around midday at the whithorse end - many being Man Utd fans (I would have been 13 years old). Gates were broken down by Utd fans and a few hundred including me rushed in (think I was more pushed in than trying to get in for free) before they got it under control again. I stood on a concrete wall alongside the side of the terrace holding onto railings and had a great view of the match. To get a draw against Utd who had won the European cup a year earlier and seeing the likes of Charlton, Law and Best was amazing for a lad my age :-)
