Nope! Only went to the "local" aways in the 70s.

However, I do recall being pelted by bricks and metal objects (scaffolding bolts?) by the hateful Brighton scum on the walk to the Goldstone.

Losing to Aldershot and being verbally abused by what seemed to be the whole population of the town (men, women, children and their dogs) in the park next to the ground.

Being cornered at the end of the platform at New Cross station with absolutely nowhere to go by advancing Millwall thugs. They all disappeared when a tube train full of West Ham supporters pulled in at the platform and set upon them.

Oh yes, ...happy days!

I remember Wally Hinshelwood was involved with coach 1 somehow.

I think he was either the grandfather or uncle of brothers Martin and Paul.

I went on my first away game to Swindon in 1973 I think on coach 1. They kindly dropped us off at Green Lane, SW16 on the way back as we told the steward we had no money left to get the bus back to Norbury.

I used to travel on Coach 1 in the 70's....Gerry Mansfield was the ' steward '.

Other folks I remember are Terry Fannin, Robbie Tobin, Big Dave Cox, Joyce ' The Voice ' and her husband Doug, Steve Stutley ( long time match day steward at SP )

Drop off for Roker Park was always on the seafront, a good 25 minute walk...one midweek game we were taken back to the coach in police vans for our own safety !

I heard from Gerry a few months back. He lost interest in football altogether - amazing considering the commitment to it he once had.

I thought about him not so long ago but just couldn't remember his name ! I used to speak to him and his wife.Does anybody know where he is or what he is doing ?
Regards 'Robbie Tobin' didn't he work as a "Pot man" in the Sussex Pub (Norbury) many moons ago ?

Willo, you can still see Stutley on match days at Selhurst Park, usually around Holmesdale Road area.

And yes, prior to working in the CPFC box office, Robbie was cellar man at The Sussex...

Might have been in the 80s but I remember feeling unwell with cold, sore throat etc and getting on a coach to go to Shrewsbury.Got around the Birmingham area and it started to snow haevily to the extent we were informed that the game had been postponed !

There was talk of going to see a game at Coventry but couldn't do so because of insurance reasons. One of the blokes on our coach was Big 'Dave Illingworth'.He was a rather rotund chap with big bushy sideburns and was well known by supporters. Does anyone have any news of the chap who was known as "Illy" ?

I used to travel on Coach 3 to away games in the early 1970s, There were some characters on board. Anyone remember 'Nutty Ginger', Peter Scarf and Steve Rolfe and the Addington Boys. Had a few scrapes at Motorway Service Stations - great memories.
