Thought de Niro's latest appearances in the First Direct landlords insurance ads are quite strong.

No one delivers the line "Prize plum" quite like it.

Pretty much everthing 70's & 80's is (at the very least) well worth a watch. Except Once Upon a Time in America. If I never sit through that again it'll be too soon.

I was with you all the way [although Heat was later and excellent] until 'America. I know its too drawn out. The best way to watch it is to use the interval break and split viewing over 2 nights.

OK, I'll bite. Not de Niro; Harvey Keitel.

It wasn't just the length*. I love Sergio Leone and have never been more dissapointed with a film. On the plus side, it looks stunning & I love the trademark Leone facial close ups (De Niro in the opium den when it kicks in is one memorable example) - it even starts fairly promisingly but plot-wise, it's so too poorly written it becomes annoyingly ridiculous. It tried (contrived) way too hard to be a classic and, for me, failed dismally. I've watched it a couple of times just to make sure. But I definitely hated it.

Didn't much care for Heat either.

Just IMO of course

*I love poncey arty films that go on forever - I have a Hungarian black and white one on dvd that clocks up at 7 1/2 hours, and very little happens. It's blinding

He's been rubbish since being the mob accountant in Lethal Weapon 2.
