Meant to comment earlier

We had lots of discussions on this

In our view, including discussing with our children, it makes surprisingly little difference to them if the school is mixed or single sex as long as they have plenty of the other sex in their worlds. You have a mix of sexes in your family so all should be good either way.

We found it matters more whether the school has an on-site sixth form. It's quite disruptive moving schools and doesn't work well for some people at age 16. The other thing we found matters is the focus on the individual. Our best experience was a school that treats each person as a real individual and these aren't particularly common. Most schools are big and machine-like.

I got my first erection in middle school (mixed) looking up Ms Cowley's skirt, aged around 9, in Middle school.

Hope this helps

OP

I made a comment earlier in the thread...I am a secondary school assistant head.

I just wanted to reassure you...in my experience the most significant factor bar none is parents. Quality of school/teaching has an impact on grades...but in terms of overall development nothing has more impact that you.

I have taught in a school in special measures where many of the kids did absolutely fine thanks to attentive and effective parenting. Equally, I have taught in an outstanding school where many kids bombed completely...and the consistent factor among those kids was ineffective parenting.

The very fact that you have considered this step so much is evidence that your kid will be absolutely fine in the school you have chosen.

All best

Can speak confidently as someone who attended both. Firstly was at Ravensbourne (mixed) and then Kelsey Park (all boys but has now been converted to a mixed Harris). From a social perspective, mixed was 100x better and this idea of boys at same sex schools turning into socially awkward sexually frustrated animals is generally true. Also a lot more fighting and trouble.

Having said that Sullay Kakai and Ryan Inniss both were at Kelsey park so if you want your kid to play for Palace then all boys may be your best bet! Reise Allassani was at Ravensbourne, though.

My lad is at an all boys school & his cousin is at the associated girls school up the road. Both are grammar schools so I don't know if this makes a difference but we have noticed one major difference between the two which could not happen at a mixed.

The boys have longer lessons and are clearly worked harder in school whereas the girls have less to do in school but receive much more homework. My lad & niece are both the same age & are at the same level in their respective schools but are getting there in a different way.

We raised the matter at a recent parents evening & it was made clear that the varying methods had been proven over the years to make all the difference - boys being far less likely to apply themselves to their homework compared with girls. Both school's results seem reflective of it over the past few years & we even have a neighbour who studied there 12 years ago & he says it was the same then.

With regard to the social aspect, the kids all travel to/from school together & tend to all meet up in mixed groups outside of school to. Most of my lad's circle of friends have girlfriends nowadays which I think is possibly perpetuated by the use of various social media outlets that enable them to communicate with each other freely.

As was mentioned previously, the only kids we see with (so-called) 'issues' at either school are more reflective of their parents not seeming to give a **** than their actual education.

Well it's hard to describe him without him sounding like a wet lettuce. He's the eldest so fairly sensible from that point of view , enjoys his football, has more male friends but does mix with girls if they like computer games, football and YouTube and things like that. He's a cub at his local pack so mixes with a few girls there. I don't mamby pamby him by any stretch of the imagination but he's still very much a young boy in the sense that he has absolutely no idea about the facts of life, erections, still sends a letter to father Christmas and so on. He's only just starting to get a little bit of freedom to go to the shop by himself, doesn't have a phone and all the rest of it.

Don't you believe it!

There are very simple ways of hiding this!
