This figure is now well over £50m considering we have signed Alexander Sorloth who also cannot score in the Premiere League.

I hope Alex does well, but he's hardly demanding a starting place with his performances and must have cost £9m-£12m.

We also flirted with Frazier Campbell, I think he cost about £1m, plus wages, but I accept this is small beer in the current market.

Imagine if CPFC had bid, say £5m for Murray this close season (somebody who continues to score at this level).

People on here would have lost their s***!

Given the option I'd have far more faith on Murray than Benteke & the ever absent Wickham. Sooner we can get shot of both off the wage bill the better

I knew as soon as we lost today someone would bring up Glenn Murray. Oh I wish we could do that with all the players we have let go and they have done better at other clubs. It is now boardering on boredom with these Murray posts. So we have spent to record over 50m plus replacing Murray as some have suggested mmmmmm, let’s put this in a nutshell. Parish said himself it was a mistake to let Glenn go. So a mistake has been made and we all would rather have Murray than Benteke.Sorlorth is as effective as a subbuteo player without a base so we are all crying that Murray is score for the weeds and we have Benteke who couldn’t hit a barn door with a tractor.

A lot of interesting reading from the start of this thread, just shows some people have absolutely no idea what they are talking about when saying Murray was past it, not good enough for the PL and was Championship level at best!

Outstanding record in 2018 and that’s playing in a relatively poor quality team!

Living in New Zealand as I do, I cannot get to watch live games, but what I would like to offer to those that get along to Selhurst Park is to SUPPORT the management, coaching team and those selected to 'wear the shirt'.

There is far too much negativity and cynicism expressed in these threads. Sure it is frustrating when our lead striker has lost confidence-BUT he is not going to improve his self-belief and confidence if we keep kicking him! Give Roy some respect and please realise that Roy will know what's best for Christian. He has fallen off his horse and Roy is trying to re-build his confidence. The least we can do is to get behind the manager, chairman and coach. In those 3 we undoubtedly have a trio to match any side in the PL.

FFS stop banging on about Murray ! He’s history. No one would’ve forecast his current form in single handedly keeping the weed afloat.

We need to concentrate on the future.

Benteke has been given unbelievable support from the management, his team mates and the fans but after one disastrous season he has started this one in just the same form.

Let’s forget what he cost - that’s irrelevant. The fact is that he can’t score for the life of him and no team can carry a player in that way.
We cut our losses on a manager after only 4 games last season and we need to do the same now with Benteke. He must be dropped!

Agree, I was unhappy when Murray went, poor decison by club and manager. Parish made it sound like he was doing old Glen a favour letting him see out his twilight years at a level he cound manage.

The Murray debacle needs to be brought out every now again so we don't forget and make the same mistake again

It always looked a mistake to let Murray go.
I am not saying this in hindsight and was really annoyed at the time.
He has the guile and goal nous which none of our strikers possess.
He wins free kicks and makes life difficult for defenders.
I agree there is not much point going on about Murray now as that ship has sailed but the club should at least be trying to source a new striker for January that is capable of doing the basics.
We are saddled with £50 million pound of inadequate strikers.

Was it not Murray who wanted a move away because of the competition for the striker role?

We should do a straight swap with the weed, Murray for Benteke, and then watch how he bangs in 30 a year for them.

Too much nostalgia with past players.
They have left for pastures new whether one or two should have been retained ( Murray, Gayle,McCarthy etc ) has no relevance as they are history!!

It’s more than nostalgia.
There’s a nagging feeling that from the very good championship side we got the absolute maximimum and saw the best of players like Jedi, Delaney, Speroni, Ward and even Bolassie.Murray was the one that got away.
I don’t see a major difference from the Murray that was banging in goals for us a few years ago and the Murray that is presently averaging around one goal in two games for our biggest rivals.
I acknowledge that we can’t do anything about it now but what makes it really galling is the lack of quality/resilience in our current strikers.Bear in mind that he recovered from a career threatening injury and is scoring goals for a team that create less chances than we do.
Can anyone seriously dispute that Murray would not get in our current side?
