For the record, I think Brook is long odds to win this fight. But the image of Golovkin as an unbeatable monster is every bit as much a product of promotional spin as Brook's chances in this fight.

Golovkin's record is impressive, no doubt. But a huge proportion of his wins (as brooks) have come against fighters below elite level. The best name on his record is arguably David Lemieux...you wont find many casual boxing fans who have even heard of him.

Who he completely dominated with a jab, also take into his account his amateur record which is over 350 wins with 5 loses and numerous amateur titles even if they was the same weight he would be odds on favourite. No one's unbeatable but it's still another case of another massive fight with the odds already being hugely stacked against one fighter. I can appreciate it from a buisness point of view but as a competitive sport it's a bit of a joke.

I don't think the fight is a joke at all.

As I said, I do think Golovkin will win. And I make you right for mentioning his boxing skills as evidenced by a glowing amateur CV.

But I don't think he is as good as his professional record suggests. Or at least I think it is hard to justify his reputation given the opposition he has proven it against.
Also, Brook does lose a lot of weight to make light welter. The height/reach/physique is not a factor in the fight. Brook has looked every bit as dominant in his fights, despite not having the knockout power Golovkin has and at a lower weight.
He has proven a lot of his credentials (chin against Carson Jones, bollox against Shawn Porter, Power against Frankie Gavin)...certainly to a degree that makes me confident he will at least be competitive.

Martin Murray who, whilst I respect hugely as a fighter, is not as good as Brook in any department and he extended Golovkin to 11 rounds.

So yes...I think Golovkin will win...but not by the walkover that most on here think.

Don't get me wrong I like brook and rate him but come on, we all know there's a difference between fighting weight and the weight you walk around at. Unless your a heavyweight every boxer will cut to get as much of an advantage as possible. Brook might walk around 12lbs heavier but he was on behind the ropes complaining about how hard it is to eat 8-9 meals a day, that dosnt look to me like he can make middleweight naturally. I really hope brook can cause an upset but he is at a massive disadvantaged. It's a good payday for him and matchroom and a cherry pick for golovkin.

That's true...but some boxers don't get better cutting weight. Bellew was a prime example. Bellew was killing himself to make light heavy and struggled twice against Chilemba, lost to Cleverley wide and got annihilated by Stevenson.

Up a weight division he is a different animal and knocked out someone who most though would beat him easily.

And Khan didn't lose to Alvarez because of weight. He was outboxing him before getting hit by one big shot...the same as he had against Willie Limmond years earlier. He was strong and fast at the weight and had to gain a lot more than Brook has.

Bernard Hopkins...middleweight to light heavy
Roy Jones...middle to heavy
so many more

Elite boxers have climbed through weight divisions for decades. Putting weight on with the amount of science they have behind them is nothing new and has seen plenty of success in the past.

If brook loses I don't think it will be because of weight...it will be because Golovkin can fight.

Murray never extended him at all, he dominated him without coming out of 2nd gear.
Macklin said that when he felt GGGs jab, he couldn't live with them for long, a f**king jab!?
I've heard a few people that have fought him say that Glovkin makes a big ring feel tiny, by cutting the ring off. Long 36 minutes for Brook I think, hoping he makes the last bell.
He's got some b**locks though and is a very good welterweight.

Good post , but I think Stevenson would smash Bellew even if scouse Tone was 18 stone

Stopped in the 5th. Corner threw the towel in. Brook had a fractured eye socket and was taking massive shots... He would of got seriously hurt if it had carried on.

Brook did well. Caught GGG with some great shots himself but Golovkin is a freak of nature. His strength is just unbelievable.

Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!!

Thought Brook was very brave, but GGG could have walked through his punches all night. Good fight, brook needs to drop down and fight Thurman , triple G might aswell retire, unless he wants to step up a weight and get boringly beaten by ward.
