Hehe. I used to use a tape recorder and hold the mic up to the telly speaker to tape the best tunes in the 70's.

And me.... but it got a bit more sophisticated in the 80's.

I had an Akai twin cassette deck and an FM tuner.

I used to tape all of top of the pops on Radio 1 and Annie Nightingale afterwards.

I could then edit the tracks and cut out the DJ waffle using the twin cassette facility.

Somewhere in my loft/attic there are loads of C90 tapes with the entire Live Aid concert on them from Status Quo kicking it off through to the USA Finale!

Great day.

Too much snobbery about music these days.

I don't like Grime myself, but don't decry those that do.

People that diss other genres disappoint me... it is fashionable to say nasty stuff about Coldplay, Phil Collins, Simply Red, etc.... but the fact is they are all successful acts with a large following and deserve respect.

I'm looking forward to watching Kings of Leon on Jools Holland later... I think they're a top band but I'm sure I've heard people on here saying what a load of bollocks they are.

Opinions..... that's all it is.

Too true. I hate the phrase 'guilty pleasure' when describing music. Why should you be made to feel guilty about whether you like a particular song or artist?

I don't mind admitting that Don't Stop Moving by S Club 7 is an absolute pop monster.

Actually to be fair to Matt I'd rather listen to...

[Link]

"Funky Nassau"

or

[Link]

"Memphis Soul Stew"

rather than....

[Link]

"Moving On Up"

But.... each to his/her own...

Vive la difference!

ive still got my tapes of john peel in 1976/77/78 , and ive got norman jays last show on kiss when they closed down as a pirate , brilliant .

you would be surprised the quality and rich deepness of sound of old tapes ,the same with vinyl, that's why there is still love for it . nowadays we are too used to the massively compressed sound of digital music and radio , great book called perfecting sound forever by greg milner on the subject
