Regardless of who you think should start when everyones fit it just goes to show how strong we are in the engine room despite getting rid of Jedi. Its healthy competition and maybe the rotation may help with regard to the niggly injuries we seem to pick up.

Not sure what you're basing this on so far

McArthur was so on point yesterday. When he plays like that we tick, and could be seen as the most important midfielder we have.

Well quite, he is Welsh after all.

I am not anti-Cabaye, I happen to think he has been underrated by many Palace fans, I just happen ti think that as a partnership Mcledley works better.

Interesting that you mentioned Cabaye running the French midfield, he played one full game and two minutes of another.

lol! Yes his nationality is Welsh!! But I think you know what I meant

And I can understand what you say there but the circumstances of a particular combination working or not are important factors to consider. He did play only one full game and played his socks off.

Unfortunately for him his competion is Pogba, Kante and others.

I would disagree, I think it shows how reliant we are on Jimmy Mc, all the talk is who to partner him not replace him.

If he gets injured we are potentially back to square one

the dignified don't even enter in the game

A good point - I reckon Cabaye would have to play the box-to-box role with either Ledley or Flamini holding. But let's pray for J Mac's food health!

Food? We will have to call him Big Mac

he should be in cotton wool and one player we definitely don't play in the league cup (which kinda contradicts what I said on the cup thread)

I think pardiola has stumbled on a good formation here. Ledley and jimmy mac have the extra legs and defensive nouse to allow the front 4 rotate and play freely. Although cabaye a class above technically he hasnt got the legs or natural defensive instincts of either. His passing range with benteke and townsend running in behind may be interesting to see when hes back. However in current system can only see him fitting in for jimmy mac whos best player at club for me. Dm flamini or ledders, centre jimmy mac or cabaye. With punch and lee fighting out 10 role.for me shape is so important as you have to expect punch and zaha to lose the ball at times its just the way they play. I think we have a nice blend in middle now but must play best mix not always best individuals, of which cabaye clearly is. Yohan over to you mate to get back in side...

When they're both on their A games Cabaye should shade it over Ledley.

However, Cabaye has been unfit/off form whereas Ledley had a good 2016 Euro performance with Wales and has come back strong.

Agree with most that McCarthur is the key.

We're in a lucky position to have all 3 players that can do a good job as defensive midfielder.

Right now Ledley and McCarthur hold sway and Cabaye will have to wait on the bench if he gets fit and if he does come on, Benteke is taking the penalties too.

If we're picking the best team not the best players then currently for me Cabaye doesn't start.

Said it before and I'll say it again - Jimmy Mac is the heartbeat of the team.

It's only a good thing that Ledley is putting pressure on Cabaye for a place next to him in the midfield. Once Cabaye gets back into the side though, can we keep him away from set piece delivery?

Well I think Simon's head is large; always involved in espionage. (Name that tune)

I just don't think Cabaye can or should walk straight back into the team.

He is class but his penalties have been woeful, as have his free kicks and corners.

And I shall agree with you once again

For me McCabaye is the best midfield combo, although Ledley has been very good. Yohan would have had a field day yesterday I believe.
