It's all relative. If you are a Momentum supporter you regard practically anyone else as being right-wing. If you are a BNP supporter you regard practically everyone else as liberal/left.

Its not relative at all. There are very clear definitions of political ideologies, movements, position in the political spectrum etc. Just because some people might be ignorantly using terms, doesn't mean they're correct.

All they're really doing is utilising hyperbole to justify their ignorance and influence others.

Which sections of society and political groupings have the correct view of what is lib/left or right-wing then? People who share your view of such matters by any chance?

Political scientists and academics in politics. Same way that people with expertise in the law, are people who have expert knowledge in law and the history of law.

Do you get your car fixed by someone who knows about cars, or someone who has strong opinions on cars?

Political economic policy defines the difference between left and right wing, with liberal forming a central point.

As such, liberal left is someone, to the left of centre. And the last actual left wing government in the UK was 1974-1979.

Of course you could define things to mean whatever you want them to mean, but then basis of language revolves around the importance of shared definitions of what a word means, based in its context and syntax.

Otherwise you're just making sounds.

Certainly I get my car fixed by a local garage who have demonstrated their knowledge of cars. Political 'scientists' and academics express opinions on politics, I don't take much notice of them when coming to my views on various political issues.

No, they construct arguments and critical analysis of politics, based on knowledge, that's assessed through peer review and journal publication. Which is very different to an opinion. They demonstrate and establish their knowledge based on quantified qualification and demonstrated knowledge.

So effectively, you're just saying words you understand, but others have no shared consensus to understand what you actually mean effectively redefining concepts to fit your opinion?

Of course, plain English would help in this debate, instead of the use of convoluted arguments, as favoured by political so called 'scientists' and ivory tower-dwelling academics. The correctness of a fixed car can be demonstrated, a political analysis cannot. Different 'experts' often disagree on such analyses - usually due to their own political views.

Oh christ. Arguing about definitions again instead of the topic.

We all know what we mean when we talk about the liberal left even if that description upsets the pedants and purists and is somewhat inadequate.

This is not about party politics, it is about an attitude that is pervasive and apparent in all self interested parties who wish to use moral fascism to control us for their own ends.

..yes, but, in hard reality, they haven't 'ruled' Britain, which is what the headline says. It is the right wing/capitalists that have since the late 1970's.

Pressure groups, lobbyists, moral outrage nutters, etc: They have had influence but never actually led via a political party. They may have had decisions made in their favour. That's it.
