Key passes = passes/ crosses where the player receiving has a shot

Chances created = key passes + assists

Not sure why key passes excludes assists.

Yes Puncheon is high on this as he has been taking corners this season - 10 chances from corners, 12 from open play. Been our most creative in open play so far this season, last year it was Wilf.

I'm assuming its because a Key pass becomes an assist if the chance is scored(?)

So almost half of his chances have come because he's now our corner taker...puts a different slant on things when compared with the likes of DeBryne's stats

Doesn't that depend on how many of De Bruyne's are from set pieces (which he also takes)?

A lot of chances do come from set pieces so it should barely surprise that Punch, De Bruyne, Willian, Tadic, and Eriksen are all the key set piece takers for their respective teams (and Lamela and Silva take some as well).

Only Firmino and Clyne on that list - I think - don't regularly take any

Oh definitely...though the 'conversion rate' he has is higher...but again that could either be down to the 'quality' of the chances he sets up...or the 'quality' of the person he sets up.

I guess the point being is that on the face of things stats are ok...but once you delve into them...

Well I won't be arguing that Punch is better than De Bruyne, or that I'd rather have Benteke/Wickham on the end of a pass instead of Aguero/Ihneacho but that doesn't mean the stats aren't important.

Worth pointing out that 2 assists is still pretty good. De Bruyne is top with 4 and a small handful on 3 (Payet, Iwobi, Lallana, Iheanacho).

I actually think Punch has been very good this season. His passing has been terrific and he has been vital to the team continuing to retain possession and progress up the field, as well as delivering better quality set pieces.

Statistically, he must be the only player in the prem to have actually tackled himself!

Love Punch, and his passion, proper palace legend in the making.

Did anyone hear Danny Murphy on Talksport the other night? He's a mate of Punch and was raving about him, even mentioned these stats.

Are sure you posted on the right thread...or had you been drinking?
