In terms of a mental illness, it has a surprising correlation with artistic capacity, but that's probably a side effect of seeing the world in a total distorted way. My Floyd era was 1967 to 1973. I rather liked those somewhat twee Syd Barratt songs such as Gnome, Bike, Scarecrow, and that very distinctive Rick Wright keyboard sound. I actually knew someone who named a pet mouse Gerald after the mouse mentioned in Bike. I saw them about 10 times between 1969 and 1971 - the first time at Bromley Technical College. Perhaps the most memorable show was their performance in the early hours of Sunday morning at the 1970 Bath Festival at Shepton Mallet.
