As someone else said, going over there is probably quite emotional. However every single one of them could have a proper place to live if they'd just claimed asylum in the first or even second country they went through. There is absolutely no need for these people to be doing what they are doing. It also skews the immigration argument.

Personally I think we have an obligation to help some of those that have been displaced by war. We do not have an obligation to economic migrants or those at the jungle. They already have a safety net, they chose not to use it.

The reason the refugees aim for the UK/Germany is, I gather, because they believe they will face less racism and outright hostility there.

It's true, I suppose. If they can make it to London or Berlin no-one is going to spit in their face nor attack them. Well, highly unlikely.

What gives Lily Allen the right to apologise on behalf of the country in a vain, self interested display of virtue signalling?

Because she's a washed up has-been luvvie who's musical career is consigned to the dustbin of history. She doesn't speak for the majority of England either. Maybe if she dropped the crocodile tears, I might agree with her. But I don't.

There's a difference between refugees and migrants. If you look at whats happening in Europe there are many people following the Syrians / Afghans coat tails trying to get in.

We do have an obligation but not to the economic migrants

What I found surprising was that the 'boy' complained that it would take 3-4 months for him to go through the correct procedures and exercise his 'right' to join his 'father' in Birmingham. So how long has he actually been in the jungle then - the 'easier' and 'faster' option to get here?

Refugees are getting attacked regularly in Germany. Wonder what the real reason for them seeking a place to live I. The UK could be?

Lily Allen can fcuk right off.

You don't speak on my behalf love, your music is sh1t and you only got where you are on the back of your Daddy's fame and connections.

If you feel sorry for these economic migrants who choose to live like they do in Calais, put your hands in your purse to help them, but don't speak on our behalf, and invite them to live here you silly cow.

In fact Lily Allen can join Nicola Sturgeon, Diane Abbott, Hilary Clinton, Merkel and the silly cow who's put a legal challenge into the decision that our lovely PM has made to trigger EU clause 50 next March.

What is it with these women?

My Mrs, Becks and Teresa May and a few other notable exceptions aside... women should not get involved in serious stuff.

Teresa May's government has no real political mandate to justify triggering article 50. The country needs a general election, with manifesto's presented by each party to really legitimately establish what the British People want from an exit, and who they want to lead that exit.

Otherwise, the Tories are in a situation that's arguably less democratic that Gordon Brown's reign, trying to establish what is arguably the UKs single most important political change in 50 or 60 years - with a leader unelected by the people, and no manifesto put before the people on that subject.

Unlike Brown there wasn't even the notion that May would be the next leader of the Conservative party, or that Cameron would step down to make way for her (in fact I'd wager most Conservatives didn't even consider her as the likely next leader of the Party, let alone the UK).

Antithesis of democratic rule.

Well if I'd fled violence and the threat of death, only to end up somewhere where I was exposed to violence and the threat of death, I'd probably move on.

I don't think its unreasonable for people a) to become refugees b) other countries to provide safe haven and asylum in fact I think its the duty of safe countries to protect and provide sanctuary where ever possible.

Its irresponsible to just wait until they turn up on your doorstep. Better to resolve the problems at source. We should have been taking Syrian refugees, from the camps, years ago, rather than letting a humanitarian crisis mount up. Instead we were busy maximising profits for corporations using immigration as a means of driving down labour costs to companies.

The UK has never had a problem with Asylum (the numbers have almost always fallen under the emigration figures).
