I've read the Carol Ann Lee, Hindley book (recently) and the Burgliosi, Helter Skelter one (ages ago). Might have to give Helter Skelter another go, I remember it being superb. I did my GCSE English oral exam on Dennis Nilsen

I did my GCSE English oral exam on Dennis Nilsen "Helter Skelter" really absorbed me in the prosecution process (albeit a foreign one) and for that reason I was really fascinated in following the Oscar Pistorius trial. Well, until Season 5 when it got a bit samey.

If there's anyone who would appreciate an antidote to the unrelenting bleakness of the forensics of mass murder, they might want to try Pastoral, by Nevil Shute. It's just a happy story.

Yeah it did get a bit bleak for a minute there. Although I would argue that reading about people popping a person in a vat of acid in their kitchen puts your own life in perspective and you think "well, perhaps I am an alright bloke after all".

It was dreadful as it goes. Everyone else did one on their comic collection or their summer holidays - mine was pinched all out of one book (Killing for company). I even ripped the photo's out of the middle to hand round. Good book though. Wish I still had one with the photo's in.

We had to do these in English (can't remember what mine was on, definitely didn't hand out photos torn from a book about a serial killer though.. I bet your teachers mentally noted your name as one to look out for in the future!)

Sounds more like its a presentation. I did my GCSE English presentation on Dr John Dee, the 16th Century Magician, on the basis that absolutely no one re-taking GCSE English would have any idea who he was, let alone whether any of the facts were correct. I guessed correctly. I did the same presentation for my A-Level English History a couple of years later (Tudor history).

My year was the guinea pig for some GSCE's in a few subjects and they all turned out a mess (as far as I know, everyone in my year got an F for computer studies). Not sure the English oral was adopted for the GCSE's following.
