Sitting on the fence!

Im still sitting on the fence on my views for the way forward. On the one hand we've played some exciting football this season and increased our majority of possession with the ball, which is nice to see compared to the Pulis days. However we're looking woefully poor at set pieces and protecting ourselves against the counter attack. If we could just tighten up at the back I reckon we would be right up there. My concern is Pardew is not capable of drilling a decent defence unlike Pulis. I think we should carry on and give Pards more time too see if he can improve our weakness, especially as I can't see any decent alternative manager available I'd want. I'm therefore sitting on the fence for now but understand both camps. Id just say let's not rush into a decision but perhaps wait till Christmas. Edited by premier fan (06 Nov 2016 8.13am)

The talk this season has been one transition in our style of play. Pardew talked about wanting to keep the ball more and dictate games, rather than defend deep and hit on the counter attack. You cant do this overnight, and I feel that games like Burnley is where we earn our bread and butter, we must win these games. If that means counter attacking then so be it. You can try that ball retention stuff against better teams where we are not expected to win.

You cant do this overnight, and I feel that games like Burnley is where we earn our bread and butter, we must win these games. If that means counter attacking then so be it.

You can try that ball retention stuff against better teams where we are not expected to win.

Tend to agree,given that we have City up next,which many feel will lead us to 5 defeats in a row. However,we have potentially winnable games against Swansea,Southampton and Hull.Failure to acquire 7 or better still,all 9 points could well see us deep in the relegation mire,and fresh blood will be urgently required to address the slide,ready for business in the new window.

Tend to agree,given that we have City up next,which many feel will lead us to 5 defeats in a row.
However,we have potentially winnable games against Swansea,Southampton and Hull.Failure to acquire 7 or better still,all 9 points could well see us deep in the relegation mire,and fresh blood will be urgently required to address the slide,ready for business in the new window.

So we shouldn't play a ball retention style against the weaker sides where we would have a lot of the ball but should play it against stronger teams where we might not have much of the ball?

Not many will see us get any points v Man C.If we go and lose at Swansea "Leaking " goals, or indeed just lose on the back of an abject performance then I believe there might be some serious reflection with regard to the tenureship of the manager.

The football is nicer, but the defensive organisation at the back and in midfield is poor and that's something he can address, surely? It's strange that AP is one of very few, I think, that doesn't take a backroom staff around with him. Surely you need a close no.2 to use as a soundboard. Kevin Keen and Woodman have both worked with him at previous clubs. As I understand it Pardew had to retain Millen in his backroom team, who I personally think is a weak link. Millen worked alongside Pulis,and is our defensive coach, but can not instil any organisation in to our defenders. It would appear that he learnt nothing from Pulis about organisation. In my opinion we should move Millen on and get in a defensive coach that can organise the defensive team to be in, and stay in, their positions.
