This thread highlights the biggest problem for me.

Pardew, in my opinion is never going to work going forward. He has had a good run at the job now and has proved I think that he has taken us as far as he ever will.

The first season was great and post Warnock was exactly what we needed but I think a combo of last years cup run and his history as a former player has given too many people rose tinted glasses.

To me Pardew is too slow to react in games and constantly makes poor subs (Liverpool at home last season being the prime example!) He seems to have a history of bad runs of results. It seems like the squad know as soon as we lose one we will go on to lose 5/6 in a row.

The squad is paper thin and we seem to have bigger problems injury wise under him than we ever have done. Questions have to be asked about what is going on with the fitness coaches and in training.

All of this is without mentioning his god like ego he takes everywhere!

however, despite all this of this, is replacing Pards really the answer? The out of work managers don't exactly excite anyone and in many cases they are worse options. Even with money we are unlikely to attract a Mancini and questions have got to be asked whether he would really work at a club like ours?

Unless we can go and find a relatively unknown (at the time) manager like Soton did with Pochettino. Maybe it is a case of better the devil you know?

People like Mancini,Hodgson,Neville are out of work for a reason. They're not very good.

Disagree about Mancini and Hodgson, both are decent. You can't say that Mancini winning Manchester City's first title in 40 something years isn't a good manager, he had the funds sure but so have a lot of others who haven't had success. Hodgson has been good at Fulham and West Brom in recent years, both clubs similarly sized to where we are now and I think Pardew would have faired far worse if he had been England manager.

Hoddle is a horrifically bad suggestion. Out-dated and out of touch. There's a reason he has been out of work since his woeful spell at Wolves.

Not a horrible guy - despite some very questionable beliefs - and a great footballer. But should not be considered for any football job at a decent level. And certainly not at our club.

There are some foreign managers - relative unknowns - who are doing well but it is a massive risk. Gasperini at Atalanta for example. Sacristán at Sociedad, Favre at Nice, and Kombouaré at Guingamp. Who knows how they would adjust though.
