Clean sheets not a priority? Just shocking from a manager on a downward slide....

Believe that Pardew said that clean sheets have "Never" been his priority.I believe he is trying to give an insight to his overall football philosophy rather than trying to say that somehow he had adopted this stance to suit the current situation at the club.

I think AP still commands the support of the Ultras. With Warnock If I remember rightly there was a deadly silence from them for that final game. And Warnock was sacked the next morning, I am hoping they can see that we are in feeefall and withdraw support. Every little helps

I think, Willo, whatever he may have or have not meant, in light of his recent record, he may, on reflection, have considered it politic not to tell the media that "clean sheets have never been the top of my priority", don't you think?

I have to admit I haven't seen the entire article.Would like to view the whole thing to ascertain whether his comments were taken out of context.

My belief is that whetever he said would have been pounced on and criticised given that he is running out of credit with the supporters. He cannot win - and not only on the pitch !

Hi Willo I get your point about building a team, But at this rate he is building a team for the championship not the Premier, And many teams have changed the way they play over the years, But do you really think thats the reason we are getting poor results? What is his excuse for the last 20 games of last season?

And i am not anti Pardew just pro Palace survival, Cnt see it happening under him

Also, I don't want to end up in the championship, stuck with that kind of wage bill.

Clean sheets are the foundation to any teams success. They not only bring at least a point but instil confidence in a team. How many good runs start with 2 or 3 draws and this progresses into wins. I've never been a fan of all out attack.

Are we actually all out attacking teams? Doesn't look like it to me, more sitting back and being rubbish at set pieces.

Why is this coming as a shock to anybody?

I've been pretty sure that keeping a clean sheet has never been a priority to Pardew.

You just have to look at the way he sets teams up at the start of a match.

Apart from the keeper everyone is encouraged to get forward and defending our goal is an after thought.

Maybe AP has forgotten football is a game where you score at one end but stop your opponents scoring at the other end!

Er, we had noticed!

Ridiculous statement for Pardew to make.

In order to win a game you obviously have to score at least one more goal than the opposition. Leaking goals at your end will inevitably make that more difficult.

What we do (at home anyway) is

- We pass it across the back building up possession stats, whilst making mistakes and inviting them to close us down. Something we don't do.

- Concede 1st. That means we then are able to attack once the opposition sit on their goal for 10 mins. Which is what we never do now.

- Attack slowly once all of their men are behind the ball so we struggle to find spaces between the lines, although I don't actually see us trying that much.

I'd like to think having a number 10 would mean we could solve our problems but it won't. All those who did cartwheels after signing Benteke and ignored the fat we're now lighter in def mid and defence apart from the signing of an unavailable and panic at the last minute Flamini must now see some errors were made and even they aren't an excuse.

We went into the season with Jedi out and an unavailable Flamini in. 6 defenders and Fryers so Souare isn't an excuse. So less selections but there's less attention to defence and detail when there are enough selections. So the excuses are running thin now.

'Clean sheets not a priority'

Is that what he says when the hotel cleaner comes knocking in the morning and there's someone giggling and hiding under the covers?
