I wonder if John Hinckley's shot has improved over the past 36 years?

I have just put the bbc news on. Open mouthed. Will he be as bad as every one thinks? Was a lot of his pre election stuff hot air, headline making bluster? A the moment it's the typical knee jerk reactions to this. Will be interesting to see if he wins a second term which is almost automatic for most presidents .Will he be assassinated? Wow I do wonder ... Surely, he can't be as bad as he came across pre-election because he's such an incredibly successful businessman. No idiot could achieve what he has so maybe he'll surprise everyone? What now? Alan Sugar for PM?

**reaches for the popcorn** It sure is gonna make things interesting. After all the silly hysteria has subsided. To see what/if any serious changes he makes. One thing you can guarantee, it won't be as bad as the anti-Trump crowd think it will be and it won't be as good as the pro-Trump want it to be.

I see that social media has gone into meltdown, with every virtue signaller screaming 'what have you done America?' Or posting a 'hilarious' meme making out that Trump is evil incarnate. The fact that the Trump victory has pissed off such a large collection of bellends is hilarious. Maybe these people should be venting their anger at Hilary, who appears to wasted a golden opportunity by being odious and generally s***.

Or perhaps not? After all, we are talking reality rather than reality TV... "Lost contracts, bankruptcies, defaults, deceptions and indifference to investors—Trump’s business career is a long, long list of such troubles, according to regulatory, corporate and court records, as well as sworn testimony and government investigative reports. Call it the art of the bad deal, one created by the arrogance and recklessness of a businessman whose main talent is self-promotion. He is also pretty good at self-deception, and plain old deception. Trump is willing to claim success even when it is not there, according to his own statements. “I’m just telling you, you wouldn’t say that you're failing,” he said in a 2007 deposition when asked to explain why he would give an upbeat assessment of his business even if it was in trouble. “If somebody said, ‘How you doing?’ you're going to say you're doing good.” Perhaps such dissembling is fine in polite cocktail party conversation, but in the business world it’s called lying. And while Trump is quick to boast that his purported billions prove his business acumen, his net worth is almost unknowable given the loose standards and numerous outright misrepresentations he has made over the years. In that 2007 deposition, Trump said he based estimates of his net worth at times on “psychology” and “my own feelings.” But those feelings are often wrong—in 2004, he presented unaudited financials to Deutsche Bank while seeking a loan, claiming he was worth .5 billion. The bank concluded Trump was, to say the least, puffing; it put his net worth at 8 million, records show. (Trump personally guaranteed million of the loan to his company, so Deutsche coughed up the money. He later defaulted on that commitment.)" Edited by legaleagle (09 Nov 2016 9.50am)

Seems like VP Pence might be the one to keep an eye on more than Trump. He's against comprehensive sex education, condoms, more LGBT rights and he wanted "an audit to ensure that federal dollars were no longer being given to organisations that celebrate and encourage the types of behaviours that facilitate the spreading of the HIV virus" He wants the dosh to be spent on conversion therapy instead.
There is loads more eyebrow-raising stuff about him out there. If anyone is looking for the real dangerous nutcase/bellend there's your man. Donald is a sexual predator and liar but at least he's no religious mentalist.

What a legacy Obama has left behind. If he'd have done a better job surely he'd have secured the future of his party being in power, and would have had some sway over who should be representing the Party?

Having digested the news and given it some thought. I think the problem a lot of people had was in the fact they didn't like Hilary Clinton. Saw her as a throwback to the Bill Clinton era and didn't want it. I wonder how much of Trumps campaign was bluster and grand standing. He for one probably never thought he would actually win. Watched His acceptance speech on tv this morning and two things struck me. His body language was completely different. Much calmer , subdued if anything and the tone of his speech was much different to the rallies of the past few weeks and months. I don't like the man and wouldn't have voted for him myself and I am shocked he has won. But I don't think he will he as bad as people think he will be. As another poster said upthread he probably won't be as good as the republicans hope either. could end up being a bit of a lame duck or toothless tiger. On paper he represents all that is wrong, the shouting sexist, racist, bloated greedy businessman stepping on people to get where he wants to be , whilst holding a gun and ye hawing. But I think Americans need to ask themselves some questions and take a long hard look at why after 8 years of democrats and Obama they have rejected all of that and gone so far the other way.

Hmm, you seem to have an agenda. I suspect America will look back at the Obama days and wake up to the fact he did a surprisingly good job in the face of massive opposition. He is also an especially cool bloke. Now counter-pose The Donald...
