I am not defensive, I speak as I find. You made unsubstantiated negative comments about someone I have observed to have done a decent job in a difficult situation. Obama fanboy - stupid comment. On the other hand you are 'balanced' by implying there is no difference between Trump and Obama. Really? Do you ever read/watch the media? You can observe the comments each has made on a daily basis yet you come out with this rubbish.

Ok, lets put your overt defensiveness to one side so we don't get bogged down in that. I haven't implied anywhere that there is no difference between Trump and Obama. In fact I haven't compared them at all. Anyone can see they're polar opposites. I merely pointed out that the result and feeling from the American people must put Obama's achievements into question, and I still stand by that as a factor in the result.

I do read and watch the media, in fact it's the bread and butter of my job, but I'm also savvy enough to know that not everything in the media is gospel and that they all have their own agendas too. Even our dear old BBC was churning out unsubstantiated BS relating to the US election this morning. Ironically, part of Trump's campaign was calling out the media for being crooked.

The people have spoken, they've made their decision, and whilst it seems like the most stupid of decisions, its their call.

That's the problem with democracy, it isn't flawless and it can produce freakish results, but it is more representative.

It'll at least be more interesting than a Clinton Presidency. Whilst Bush was a f**king disaster, it was at least interesting.

I for one reject our new Tango Mascot.

Tempted to take the afternoon off and watch the BBC, read the Guardian, listen to James O'Brien and cry. With laughter.

2016 is one of the most exciting years I have ever experienced (born 1954).

Lots of knee jerk reactions expected today from the usual suspects - but give it time and the world will probably see a better USA in 4 years time than the one Obama will hand over.

Talk of assassination is a bit premature and disingenuous... Trump is only President elect right now.

When he does get into power though it will be interesting to see which of Trump's pre-election promises he achieves first....

Locking Up Hilary?

Building the Wall and getting the Mexicans to pay for it?

Banning Muslims from entering the USA?

i suspect they were tongue-in-cheek, grandstanding boasts as is typical of his on stage persona.

I reckon he will turn out to be a pragmatic achiever and with the Republican majority at all political levels in Washington should get things moving.

His appointment will also be good for us if he keeps his promise to put The UK ahead of EU for trade negotiation once we have formally left the EU.

The dawn of a new era.

I watched his acceptance speech this morning and as I say his body language and tone was very different to that of the rallies. He was grandstanding there and saying what the crowd wanted to hear, what got them going and what got him the publicity he wanted. This morning he was quite different. He probably never expected to win if he was honest Half of it won't happen as someone else said the republicans will probably be disappointed and the democrats surprised because by god they will be watching his every move and listening to his every word.

It does make things quite difficult when you are raising children and trying to install values of respect, not speaking ill of others and having a decent moral compass and they see trump becoming undoubtedly one of the most important powerful men in the world after some of the things he has said and done. Quite at odds with what I am trying to instill.

As for it being farage 2 Obama 0 . Quite childish. I used to like farage. Now I see him as someone who is a trouble maker. He thinks it's funny to set the cat amongst the pigeons and upset the apple cart. He has made a career out of it all the while pretending to be a man of the people which when you scratch the surface he most certainly is not. Drinking a pint in your local does not mean you are one of the people. Very cleverly marketed if you like.

Hillary will go down in history as the person who couldn't even beat Trump.

She had everything on her side including most of the media and a large proportion of the republican party. She had an opponent that had a string of sex allegations against him and a recording of him boasting about sexual assault and still she couldn't beat him. An opponent that has a running mate who is a religious nut-job and still she couldn't win.

Get your money on Michelle Obama as next US President now.

Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry.

Got out of bed the wrong side this morning love?

Childish.... not really...just having a laugh and reminding people that Obama backed the wrong horse again.... I didn't like his empty threats during the Brexit campaign that he stuck his nose into and the fact that he has achieved the square root of fcuk all in 8 years.

Farage had one goal and against all the odds achieved it. The man is a genius.

As for his visits to the pub, these have been severely curtailed by the arseholes from Momentum and Class War who think it's acceptable to harass politicians in their local trying to have a sunday lunch with their families... and yet you call him a troublemaker.

As for Trump - he will be judged at the end of his term of office.... but he hasn't got a hard act to follow in Obama.

Really shocked. I thought the popular vote would be close, but the electoral college shouldn't have been.

Fair play to him. He has turned politics on its head, by tapping into an anti-establishment undercurrent as well as a racist, bigoted, misogynist undercurrent separately.

If that's what the people want, then that's what they get.

I suspect he will be much more pragmatic as actual President. He is relatively socially liberal, just fiscally conservative.

But it is going to be fun seeing him try and apply his most outrageous policy suggestions - banning Muslims from entering the country (which he admittedly backtracked on), getting Mexico to build a multi-billion dollar wall, deporting 11.5m "illegals".

I think that's unfair. Given the headwinds he faced I think Obama will go down as one of the most successful and dynamic presidencies in history.

But what his presidency hasn't managed to do is heal rifts that have emerged over the last couple of decades. In fact they have got worse.

For anyone who remained unconvinced by Gazza’s Raol Moat chicken episode, this proves empirically the notion of Infinite Universes. There can be no other explanation. Just a pity we’re in this one. Still, it’s a laugh. A ha ha ha ha. Laugh through the tears – it’s the only way.

Maybe it’s all just a massive wind-up. Perhaps the President Defect will be sworn-in by the reanimated corpse of Jeremy Beadle. f***ing idiots. If you’re pissed-off with endemic hierarchical corruption, you set fire to and cut the heads off s***; you don’t choose to be led by someone able to be outwitted by a donkey. Leader of the Free World. How embarrassing. Imagine being envious of the North Koreans for their leader’s credibility. Ye gods. Still, progress of a sort – no female Potus but we do have the first retard. George W., now Klump - how the hell do Republicans top that? Get your money on their next winner in 2028 being a bag of rotting fish guts.

The Garbage-Man can...

Hmmm. Not many opinions on here or social media on how this will affect us. People more interested in elsewhere as per. And that is why he won of course.

Obama showed no loyalty to us so goodbye mr cool, and he is cool, and couldn't implement enough past the republican congress.

Clinton is hawkish over matters in the Middle East whereas trump would rather not meddle, which is what actually causes most of the problems. Short term though the problem there is Syria needs resolving soon.

Russia. If Trump has a relaxed approach to Putin then what might that mean regarding Ukraine and other neighbors?

He might get the many countries not paying the required 2% or whatever it is into NATO.

I expect some of his mad ideas break the constitution of America and wouldn't get voted through congress anyway.

As with all political directions taken there will be some winners and losers so we'll see. Interesting that 29% of Hispanics voted Trump and not many 'African' Americans turned up. So what does that say? They view policy over the personal exterior? The losers before Obama have not won very much?

A lot of the overreacting is probably for nothing come 4 years and there won't be a nuclear war or the end almost equality in America just as Brexit hasn't meant world war 3.

How anti-establishment is a rich white business man, from a rich family? The anti-establishment candidate lost out on the Democratic Nomination.
