Not bored, but feel very flat.

Simply haven't got over cup final disappointment.
Probably never will.
Still not properly over the 1990 defeat.

45 years old, unlikely to ever see Palace win a real trophy.

Sorry to be maudlin.

But I wonder if this is a more widespread sentiment.
For 38 years I have been a forever optimist riding the Palace roller coaster. May just have run low on adrenaline.

The cup finals are hard to get over if you ever really can but I try to live off the semi finals and playoffs, wins over Brighton and being south London's number one etc.
Life in the championship has been OK with the games coming thick and fast more night games rather than sitting in watching champions league but we were all hoping for promotion and here we are. I do feel we as fans have lost some of the togetherness we used to have for whatever reason but the OP s original list could probably be posted on quite a few prem team forums so it could just be some people's current view of top flight football.

Fine post, and all pretty much on the money. However, in the interests of balance, we've got Wilfried Zaha in the form of his life, consistently being one of the most exciting players in the premiership. We've got Benteke, who is arguably our best CF since the days of Wright / Bright. Puncheon's playing at the top of his game, as is James MacArthur. Ok the less said about the defence the better, but there are positives out there too, let's not ignore them...

eh what???

no one..not even he has really given that position what it truly requires.

Agree with several posters about the cup final, Utd were there for the taking. Also that I'm disillusioned with Pardew. That said how can you not be excited? Got 3 of the best players ive seen at Palace in Dann, Wilf and Benteke. Also in flashes Cabaye and Townsend are lovely to watch. A Full stadium (with decent support probably as good as anywhere in league at home), a chairman that's managed to blag 50 million for infrastructure for a not prestiges club that's won nothing but zds cup (great day). I miss Derry, Michael Hughes, Jednak and shipperley too we certainly need more leaders. However were a few transfer windows away from a decent squad, some planning permission away from a new stand and we now go toe to toe with anybody in league. I'd suggest although we may go down with Pards the Football has been very exciting. Burnley away my case in point. Take away the last minute defeat and the actual game was thoroughly enjoyable. Staying up at Wednesday and Stockport was exciting. The promotions have been exciting. However beating Chelsea home and away in recent seasons have been as exciting as that. Winning at Anfield, beating Spurs and City all very exciting too. I like our profile and the fact we're on the TV and constantly in the spotlight. half full ground and home to Barnsley will happen again it's our DNA so enjoy the good times. We're not perfect but not far away I feel from a good side. Be careful what you wish for? Charlton, Leeds, Wolves, Wednesday, Derby would love to be as boring as us..... Keep the faith eagles!

What frustrates me I that previous season we would get up for playing the bigger clubs and nick points. Now we just seem to roll over as if we're paying them to much respect! Man City will spank us with ease I fear!

If only we were an established 'mid-table' team and as for not finishing lower than 14th, we were 15th last season. I fully expect there will be plenty of drama at the end of this season, for entirely the wrong reasons.

Boredom ? - an experience totally alien to true Palace supporters ! We've never had it so good as now and I include the team of the 80's and Coppell's team. Then we had no chance to progress but with the money available now we can keep moving forward but there is no point in trying to rush progress now when we are in the top flight.
Last season's early run and Pardew's talk of Champions League were too premature and just created the disappointment when things unravelled. The truth is we were not ready to march up the league then and we still aren't now. Yes we have invested what for us is massive money but we still don't have the all round strength to change our style to a more attacking system AND be successful - for that to happen we need another 5 players of the class required.
If we try to go toe to toe with City we will leak goals and just like against Liverpool we will only score due to their defensive mistakes. Pardew needs to be more pragmatic and look at each game realistically - play a system tailored for each game - and for this week that means going back to counter attack. As for it being boring how can you say that when you are going to watch one of the best teams in the world or would you prefer to be playing Rotherham ?

That’s one of my points tho mate. If it was Palace a few seasons ago I wouldn’t of put it past us to turn over Man City against all odds. However, I feel we have lost that plucky party to our play. Our dogged determination and self belief has gone and we are now just directionless. We have no leaders, a poor manager and hope that the investment in a few players over the summer will be enough to secure another season in the premiership. The vibe on Palace forums is indicative of where we are currently too … there doesn’t seem to be much hope and all the optimists can provide is ‘write off the City game as we’ll never win that, and give Pardew a few more games and then if it’s still bad get rid end of the year!’ … uuuuuummmmmm That’s one of my points tho mate. I'm massively bored of large amounts of our fan base - Palace talk is embarrassing at the moment.

It takes all sorts I suppose.

I want to see my team competing in the best league in the world and playing good football against some of the top teams even if we end up getting beaten.

Who cares about end of season drama

I like to think it's only a very small portion of the overall fan base, but it just happens that they're very noisy on here.

But I agree there was much more considered debate and far less reactionary hysteria on the Beeb Palace forum, back in the days of the club flirting with oblivion.

People seem to forget that mid-table isn't mediocrity; it's being in the top 10/11 teams in the strongest league in the world. 21st in the Championship with a game to go feels much more mediocre.

I think you start losing a bit of interest when your club starts losing some identity and becomes just another PL outfit. We used to be a club that brought through its own youngsters - now there's only Zaha in the team that started at the club and we haven't really brought anyone through since Williams 5 years ago. Now we just buy in players.

Play good football and get beat.
Play rubbish football and win.
I'll take the latter.
