really it comes down to what your expectations for the season are?

for a team that finished bottom 3rd of table and net spend pre-season was under 10m i dont expect any higher than 15th, especially since papa f***ed his leg up.

despite our recent form i still have absolutly no worries about us getting relegated, we have the squad still to finish above the drop zone.

pardew is building a decent team here, infact probably the best we have ever seen in the clubs history, were on our longest stay in the top league (thanks to pardew keeping us up for 2 seasons on a small budget.

i genuinally do not know what people expect, were not a top 6 side, were one of the premiership "mor" clubs that dont go doown but dont challenge for anything...its the best we can hope for unless somebody throws hundreds of millions at the squad.

im sick and tired of all this pardew out bollocks, there isnt even a better option out there to replace him, its your classic bulls*** lets change the manager every 5 minutes mentaility that i hate about football nowadays. quick fix (?) over lets try and build something mentaility.

luckily i think the board have more sense than most fans on here.

I expect to wins some home games. I admire your belief that things will improve I'm afraid I don't share any such faith.

The ups and downs of Palace have left me older than my years

potential is the key word there, i agree with you on that point, we have the potential to qualify for the europa league, doesnt mean i think we will meet that potential this season.

I think people expect to win more than 5 games in 33.

I think people expect to see an improvement every year we are in the Prem. Even if that improvement is slight.

The pro Pardew lobby can jump up and down as much as they want but there is no denying that 5 wins in 33 games is a disgusting and unacceptable stat. And please don't try and say its because we've been really unlucky with injuries because that's bollocks... last season we lost Jimmy Mac for 3 months and yannick for 2. Important players yes, but hardly the spine of our team missing.

And I don't buy into this 'who else is out there' stuff either. As mentioned before we are a Prem club. We have the facility to buy other managers out of their contracts if need be (just like we did with Pardew)

At least we are now starting to play decent football even though its obvious some of the squad don't have the skills to make it work.

A bit of patience and the acquisition of two quality players - one to boost the leaky defence and the other to provide a quality ball-holding midfielder should see us through.

Trouble is, a creative midfielder (and McArthur & Cabaye are essentially defensive midfielders) will be hard to find. The likes of Mata and Fabrigas are out of our league. Maybe a short term bid for Gerrard or Lampard to see us through? Otherwise a gamble on Tomlin, Gleeson or Watson ... all along this 'missing link' has held us back.

I'd prefer Pardew over Coleman. He's had one good run of form with Wales whilst having one of the best players in the world in his team. The rest of his managerial career is mediocre at best.

Agree!

I completely agree. He has a relatively Premier League goalkeeper/defence/holding midfield combination which purely has to not concede to win a game, or concede 1 to draw, because he has one of the best players in the world up front.

All of this up against fairly mediocre opposition.

The missing link is employing a manager who can extract the absolute most out of the squad we have got and this includes tactical acumen. To get to lofty positions and have the ability to retain those positions or falling away slightly not nosediving and with it making some awful statistics that quite frankly are an embarrassment.

I agree, the sense of entitlement by most on here is staggering. Changing the manager doesn't change our fortunes automatically, look at Everton with Koeman.
There are no managers, who haven't been failures elsewhere, except very few strangely Pulis is one of them.
The board will stick with Pardew, regardless of what The Sun says.

I don't think that its too much to want a top 10 finish given the money we have spent. Finishing in a high position is very important also in the recruitment of players. At the moment we are massively under achieving and that (again) is ultimately down to the manager!!

Wow, this is an amazingly sensible thread.

Like others, I think he has to get at least 1 win out of the next 3, because, even if performances have been solid, we need to stop the rot and sneak a win any which way.

If he doesn't, he may well go, but I have no idea who would replace him. There is no guarantee the new manager would do any better.

To want a top 10 is perfectly reasonable, I thonk it's the feeling that some fans expect it.

We are currently 3 points off 11th, in three games time we could be sitting in about 8-9th or in the relegation zone. It really is that tight and that early.

That said if we are in the relegation zone after the next three then I will not be able to back him any more

the dignified don't even enter in the game

Actually its Palace, so that's exactly what I expect! We never do it the easy way.
