I suspect that some might conclude that this season being our 8th consecutive PL campaign is progress in itself.

Some midnight swotting for you Willo. Are you able to tell us the average age of the squad for each of those seasons. That would be an interesting stat.

I am not entirely sure I possess the bandwith, cerebrally, to provide such a detailed statistic over the period of 8 seasons !!

We have had several in their 30s in the PL during this period : Delaney,Ramage, Gabbidon, Jerome Thomas, Murray, McCarthy, Wilbraham, Ameobi, Hangeland, Adebayor etc etc
"Dads Army" not "Read and blue army" !!!!

2020-21 12 over 30

Some interesting stats that I just picked up. Next to our league position I have added the number of squad players aged 30 or over during that season. As you can see, this year in particular has seen our squad ageing and the squad average age according to transfer market is 28.5

It seems that we hardly look outside the M25 for players so what makes you think we'd look further afield for a new manager.

According to this website we've made 14 signings in the last two seasons (not counting those that signed professional contracts from our academy). Of those only 3 are from inside the M25 - Batshuay, Cahill and Eze. That's 21%.

To answer your question. I think what we need in a manager, and who we are likely to be able to attract, doesn't exist inside the M25, therefore we will need to hunt elsewhere.

Well it certainly felt like it with our closed season targets (according to the media) of players from QPR, Brentford and Watford, perhaps not quite within the M25

The next manager will be a difficult appointment as most contenders will know that we are skint and also that our transfer policy is decided by the chairman and the manager has little input.

The chairman will have a short list of possible candidates which will be kept under review throughout the season and if he hasn't he bloody well ought to have as the prime function of a company chairman is forward planning

although the FDB appointment was clearly the wrong guy, the thought behind it and much of the process was correct. I really hope that Parish & Co aren't so burned by that experience that they won't look at it again. We've been through a cycle of mercenary managers and safe-but-tired old hands. It's time to have another serious go as evolution over the long term, not surviving season-to-season.

You and Rachid have both entirely missed the point or taken it too literally . I am not saying let’s get Bielsa or Santo, I am saying someone with their credentials. They didn’t just appear from nowhere and both were initially willing to manage a level down.

Now just because I can’t think of someone doesn’t mean they are not out there and I don’t agree that coming to us is a far fetched dream. As people keep telling me, we are now an established PL team, admittedly unattractive to watch and tarred by the Royball approach, however nonetheless established and there is no reason why a decent manager wouldn’t see us as a decent proposition.

No point being missed at all. What do you not understand about wealthy foreign investors with a vision for their sleeping giants and contacts like Mendes ? Bielsa and Santo have managed the likes of Valencia, Lazio and Porto. We’ve had the likes of Allardyce and Pulis both walk with the most likely explanation being lack of investment and control over transfers.

Palace's conservative approach comes from Parish. I know Watford went down, but the reality is that even they are ahead of us. And, emotion aside, the two clubs are in similar situations.

Ask any Watford supporter what chairman they would prefer and I bet the answer will be Parish.

The club are a mess. They spent more money on sacking manager than they did on defenders, relying on Marriappa, a player who struggled to hold a place in some of our weakest back lines.

Watford are an example of how to be dumb with money.

Really? So Parish is the manager and Roy is just, what? A figurehead? A placeholder? I think you're ascribing way too much influence to the face of ownership. SP is the money guy, or at least the face of the money guy, behind the operation but on the field it's all Roy.

The manager asks for the players he wants, so he can manage a team/squad that suit his style... parish says no.... roy comes back with plan b, c, Parish squirms... goes with a fan fav to cover the cracks of not buying plan A.
