Whether you like Parish or not, the fact remains, we are now in our 8th season in the Premier. You can’t mismanage a club and remain in the most competitive league in the world. No previous Chairman has come close to achieving that.

So, he must be doing something right.

We will have to wait and see, frankly we were lucky not to go down last season based on our scoring ability alone, only Norwich were worse than us on that score. Parish was responsible for extending contracts of players who were not performing or who were permanently injured and for the unrealistic wages being paid out. We have an aged squad, investors who want out, little money to invest in team succession planning, a stadia that is in urgent need of expensive refurbishment. Parish also wants to be in control and this alone is a barrier to other investors coming in, sorry, I hope I'm wrong but current trends will tend to suggest our luck is running out and this could be the season when it happens and then once we are relegated how far will we fall!

The Parish wants to be in control line, is all just social media gossip. He built up and ran his own business TAG, which he sold, proving if the money is right he will sell his business. He has stated he would sell, if the right person offered to buy at the valuation and had Palaces interest at heart. He and all of us have seen some unknown foreigner buy a club, then just disappear and show no interest leaving them in a mess ie Charlton and Orient recently

It maybe hard for some to swallow, but he is a fan, who has the best interests of the club at heart.

I completely agree. About time someone on here talked some sense and wised up to the challenges of running any business - especially in such uncertain times. The track record of Parish since 2010 stands up extremely well in my opinion - just examine what he inherited and where Palace are now. Back in 2010, spending £20,000 on a player was a bid deal - did anybody really dream of £20m - Eze - being possible?

You don’t ‘luckily’ stay in the premier league for 8 years. Also how were we lucky to stay up. We got to 40 points with 8-9 games to spare.

Steve Parish is the most successful chairman we have ever had. I think you need to lower your expectations and look at the bigger picture. We just invested 20m in a Cat 1 training complex.

I agree we do need investment, but right investment.

Does Steve P make mistakes, hell yes he does. But deep deep down, would you rather him or roll the dice on another overseas owner with no affiliation to the club.

For every Leicester, there’s five or six
Blackburn
Charlton
Sheffield Wednesday
Watford
Sunderland
Portsmouth

Totally agree Ali, with this deeply uncertain time with Covid and the state of the EFL, premier league survival is more important than it ever has been. If we can stay up while the Academy overhaul is completed and ride this wave, then we are helping to secure a long term legacy from the success of the last decade.

We also need more investment from our American owners to help SP or they need to sell if that’s what they want. I cant see us being anything other than an attractive option. London based, PL somewhat established, a great catchment area and a lot of potential for growth. But right now, with what’s going on including this talk of Super leagues, I wouldn’t want anyone else than Parish in the PL boardrooms fighting our corner.

We have to ask ourselves, after 8 years in the Prem how far have we gone forward as a club? Answer apart from Cat 1 academy status, nowhere. When we return to the Championship which we inevitably will we will have exactly the same stadium as when we were promoted but a wage bill 5 times the size. Was it worth it? It seems to me the club has more chance of moving forward if we go down with a chance of more academy players making the step up. At the moment we are treading water.

In my book we have gone forward as a club by just staying in the toughest league in the world. The likes of Everton, West Ham, Southampton are in the exact same position as us. There is absolutely no logic in saying that if we go down then it be better for us as a club to progress, It would do the complete opposite.

Agreed. How people get it in their heads that SP is doing a bad job, that he's preventing the club moving forward, is not splashing out just because he's tight, or various other drivel spouted on here is beyond me.

I just cannot understand how people don't see it. Lower mid-table in the top flight every year for eight years is bordering on miraculous given our history, budget, facilities, fairly recent scrapes with administration, maximum wage bill allowed under FFP, and all the other things that actually exist in the real world, but get overlooked (or just aren't understood) by critics of Parish.

The current stick being used to beat him with is that he backs Roy who plays awful football. Well, last Saturday was certainly dire, and it wasn't the first time that's happened, but leaving aside whether Roy is right to play as he does, it's wrong to say that Parish doesn't care how we play. He just weighs that up against whether we get relegated which, and I can't believe this is even something people debate, would be a bad thing.

When appointing De Boer Parish talked frankly about how the team needed to develop from being a very defensive counter attacking side to one who would use the ball better and score more goals, especially at home where our record (at that time) was bottom three material. As we know, he got his fingers burnt, and reverted to the safe pair of hands of a defensive coach.

I'm sure he finds days like Saturday as tedious to watch as we do. The difference is he sees the ugly reality of it - playing like that is, overall, the most likely way that a small-to-medium sized club like ours will stay up, and it's only by staying up that he can make us a medium-to-big club through long term planning and development of the academy and stadium. Which he has explained. Openly. Again and again.
