I think what pissed me off the most was the players and manager whooping and a cheering like it was a done deal after the first goal went in. Obviously players celebrate but it left a bit of a nasty taste in the mouth especially given our poor form and the amount of scrutiny they are all under. Far too much excitement , casualness and complacency

Phil Neville?

As credible as Jeremy Corbyn as PM.

It is most definitely Pardew's fault.

We cannot defend in open play, free kicks or corners.

Pardew appointed a defensive coach (Millen?) who Al says "worked all week" on this.

WTF were they doing?

It wasn't even schoolboy errors... it was a fundamental lack of understanding as to how to set up defensively.

Pulis had our defence working like clockwork and we had clean sheets home and away.

Pardew even made a statement to the effect that we aren't interested in clean sheets FFS!

Pulis put Puncheon on the post at corners who usually cleared the danger rather than Cabaye who could have hoofed the ball upfield yesterday rather than present it to Fer to stab it in our goal.

It is Pardew's fault for the lack of a leader in the side.

The closest we have is Delaney, but Pardew prefers Tompkins as CB partner to Dann and yet he turns his back on the ball when its hit towards him.

The team is a fcuking shambles and that is down to Pardew.

He must go.

Neville is talking out of his arse. Whose job is it to drill the defence and make sure everyone knows what they're doing? Who imposes discipline and motivation? Who defines the lines of communication and responsibilities? In short, why do all ninety-two clubs in the league even *have* managers?

And how come Pulis could keep clean sheets and grind out results with similar, if not the same, players whereas Pardew ships five goals against the team that's bl**dy bottom?

Unfortunately it's not just about the money but also about the availability of the right person. If we had wanted Benitez for example there was a moment in the summer we could have approached him but now he's firmly ensconced. On the other hand at the start of the season Allardyce had a job...

Perhaps (Phil) Neville is paving the way for his brother's excuses. Or trying to explain away the arse of things he made at Valencia. Or perhaps he's just s***-stirring.

Agree with much of what you are saying, simply because we can compare Pardew to Pulis and see the results. I highly doubt a Pulis team would have allowed five goals to Swansea. I'm still reeling from yesterday - for some reason, this result seems like one of the worst I have ever witnessed. It made me feel worse than when Liverpool shipped nine past us, honestly. Until yesterday, I was willing to give Pards the benefit of the doubt. Even though I think continuity is important, his poor record this year is wearing thin.

The one thing I can't agree with here is that Pardew is responsible for the players' motivation. I think Neville is correct about the players being responsible for their apparent lack of desire. You are professionals, ffs. If I am the manager and I have to motivate you, you're fired. If your wages and personal pride are not motivation enough, then go away.
