It was harder and more dangerous with the old swing doors and we managed it. Same hackneyed reasons given when clippies were phased out

Virgin don't own Southern rail for a start. As for getting off the train meeting one coming the other way, that is already automated. Not that people couldn't manage when we had self-operated slam door trains.
