Reports saying Pape himself has admitted his career could be over.

Thought he was on the road of recovery?
Hoping this is not tru e

I suppose it does depend on how well he recovers. Its probably still early days, but it sounds like the prognosis hasn't been favourable.

Having had serious leg injuries myself I said at the time I thought it might be.

I hope I / he is wrong, there is a long way to go, it may be he won't be back in the PL though.

Admitted it to who? Seems strange that he would say that to a random journo. I want to hear it from the club or Pape himself before I believe it.

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold...

The Crystal Palace defender has spoken to the BBC World Football radio programme about his ordeal and cast doubt over his comeback. Admitting that his career was ‘in God’s hands’, he remembers the aftermath vividly. A man waited with him while help was on its way. Helicopters took him away after cutting the roof of the car off.

Asked when we can expect him back, Souare replied: “To be honest, until now I’m talking to you, I don’t know about my injury. I don’t know if I can get back to football or not.”

Chasing ovine uphill into the boggy ground for an easy capture can be a dangerous business I've heard

What a shame if true, for us but mainly for Pape himself.

Just shows you how fragile life is and how a football career can be ended in a second.

Get well soon Pape.

I thought it was utterly ridiculous for the club and Pardew to be giving a date for his return not too long after the crash. Pape has to recover not only physically but mentally too, setting a date for him returning would put a lot of pressure on him.

I don't think he was necessarily saying his career could be over, just that he is not sure at the moment. Certainly you can hear a little doubt in his voice when he's asked about returning.

I think he will return but I don't think there can be any guarantees the same player will come back; remember this is a player that relies a lot on his athletism.

I guess there must be ups and downs recovering from such an injury lets just hope its one of the downs and he can still get thru it.

I agree, he clearly is being very cautious because it is far too early to say how much he may recover and what level of football fitness he will be able to achieve. I do wish him well he is positive but very sincere and honest and knows it may not happen!

We will look back on 2016 as a very poor year for the club, notwithstanding the FA Cup Final appearance, for many reasons and this will be one.

Supporting Crystal Palace since 19.45 on 29th August 1972 (approximately)!
