IQ

This is a false quote. From an interview with Time magazine that didn't happen at the time it was attributed. I think he is a moron but in this instance it's not true.

That's too glib. You simply don't get elected as Prezz by being a moron. That is one thing he emphatically is not. He read into the zeitgeist perfectly and played it like a pro.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

George Bush was a moron, I think he had a very clever team around him but I think the man himself is a moron. I think his opposition has a lot to do with it but I see no evidence to suggest he is anything other than an idiot.

I wouldn't agree he 'played it' at all. He's shown that he's incapable of
controlling himself that well. Instead, he was totally himself and people bought into that. Not his biggest fan but credit where it's due, he got the job done.

He won. What more evidence do you want?

People didn't elect his team. Not a moron - politically opposed to you, perhaps but you simply do not just stumble into the White House.

I saw that he won on the news, it was fairly well publicised.

My point was that he didn't 'play it' at all. He was merely himself. So, he was in the right place at the right time. Elected despite his actions rather than because of them. As I said before, respect to him for bringing it home.

We only know his public persona. I think he played up to the mood in the country. It was no accident - it was a deliberately planned campaign.

I recall reading the views of lobby journalists on whose public appearances were at greatest contrast to their private behaviour. The three that came up were Gordon Brown (dour - charismatic) and both Ed Miliband & Boris Johnson (awkwardness / bumbling - ruthless).

Sometime I regard Trump in a similar way. But I think while it may be effective for campaigning, not sure it's going to work so well for governing.

I partly subscribe to that view. But he is - much like BoJo the Clown is proving to be in the UK - incapable of controlling some of his urges. Something that when you speak in a position of authority you really should be able to.

He clearly put on some public persona. He is from the economic right, but definitively the social left and yet has somehow managed to convince the social right that a socialite, married and divorced multiple times, with history of affairs and sexual misconduct, is a symbol for social conservatism. That is playing the game well (although helped that they were so desperate to like anyone that wasn't HRC)
